It accounts for roughly 1,000 new cases each year.   A former classmate and dear friend of mine, Rafael "Bing" Azanza, is a founding member and is still very active in this charity.  He lost his 5-year old son to this disease.   The website is      http://www.life4leukemicchild.org.ph/ I am also excerpting Bing's post to me when he wrote me details of his organization.  As you will read, they welcome any help, big or small.    You may contact the organization directly, or Bing Azanza or myself if you have any questions.   Thank you.   Jay de Leon www.tipunan.com     "Oh, hi, Jay. Well, very kind of you to remember, and to take interest in this.   It's called the Leukemic Indigents Fund Endowment. We chose those words because the first letters spell L.I.F.E.   We discovered that children of poor families were dying from leukemia because their parents could only afford one or two doses of medicine - it takes about a year and a half of treatment to bring about a cure. These days, with modern medicine, about 75% of children with the most common form of leukemia - ALL, or Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia- can survive. But they have to get the medicines and be treated.   So, we formed L.I.F.E. Most of us who formed L.I.F.E. have lost family members to leukemia. I lost my 5-year old son.   We provide counselling, and medicines, and treatments, to leukemic children of poor families. We are affiliated, and our clinic is in, the Dr. Fe del Mundo Medical center (formerly knows as Childrens Medical Center Manila). Dr. Fe del Mundo is, well, like a Mother Theresa. just google her. She was the first Filipina who went to Harvard Medical School (this was before World war II) , she has been the pioneer in pediatric medicine in the Philippines, she has received a million awards, including from both the US military and the japanese military because she treated both sides dutring the war - well, she has written so many books etc. that you just have to google her. she established this hospital and funded it from her own family inheritance. She never married - children and the hospital have been  her life.   Anyway, here is the website. We are not professional website makers so it's a little kalat, but you can get the idea.   Any help, no matter how small (or how big) would be so welcome. And any donations to us are tax-deductible (well, in the Philippines, don't know about the US.)   Hey, man, whatever you can do will help us a lot.   http://www.life4leukemicchild.org.ph/     P.S, I was the Chairman for Business for a number of years. My eyes have been fading. So I reduced my workload to being a member of the Board of Trustees, but I'm still very active.   Actually, you or anybody could actually take a specific child under your wing and help that specific child's treatment and survival. We could propose to you a child. Or any general donation which we will use to buy medicine will also be most welcome.   Could tell you a lot more if you have any comments or questions after perusing the website. Thanks, man.   Bing" _______ --- On Mon, 4/20/09, Leslie L. Buck, Jr. wrote: From: Leslie L. Thank you in advance for any suggestions! best regards to you all, Leslie L. The Espada Y Daga (Sword & Knife) is a favored weapon combination of many Filipino Grandmasters. In Espada Y Daga you are taught various drills, and combative applications employed in long (Largo), medium (Media) and close range (corto). It is arguably the most complex aspect of the Filipino martial arts, as practitioners learn to use two different length weapons in tandem, requiring a high level of skill and coordination.
