Re: Fwd: Question for the Group mind (Steve Burwen) --__--__-- Message: 1 Date: Tue, 28 Apr 2009 13:36:44 -0400 Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Fwd: Question for the Group mind From: Steve Burwen To: Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Ray, Chuck Gonzaga, my old instructor, is in the Bakersfield area and teaches the Lee/Inosanto JKD/Kali blend, and is a senior student of the late, great Ted Lucay-Lucay. I was with him for four years, got certified, and then unfortunately had to move on last year. He has a small but good group of people who train in the garage of his big house in Lamont. When I was there most of the half dozen or so students already had black belts or were very experienced in other areas, including tae kwon do, karate, hapkido, aikido, and we had one wrestling champ (Chuck's younger brother Robert), who is still quite a good wrestler although almost 60. So although we focused mainly on the jkd/kali, we also traded knowledge a lot and had a blast. I contributed the tai chi and chin na applications, which people enjoyed since it was something different, and also some karate and hung gar kung fu. Chuck also has experience in san sou kung fu, and has a black belt in a synthetic system that combined wing chun and various other arts, created by a guy who was the chief instructor of the Egyptian anti-terrorist forces in Egypt, and had black belts in various arts. So Chuck has a diverse and interesting background himself. Chuck's email is chuck.gonzaga@chevron.com. I would recommend your student get in touch with him. Don't know if the old group I came up with is still there, but I really miss that group and Chuck. --Steve B.
