New legislation has required that anyone teaching applies for a work visa and the timescale has led to the unfortunate cancellation of this seminar. Anyone booked on the course should contact Bob Breen. -- Pat Davies www.amag.org.uk http://twitter.com/ipat23 --__--__-- Message: 2 From: Young Forest To: Eskrima Digest Date: Tue, 9 Jun 2009 14:18:54 +0000 Subject: [Eskrima] RE: footwork Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net > maybe a bit goofy, but I find myself mentally switching from > boxing/kickboxing to fma footwork while practicing. is this a > phenomena of someone who has cross trained, or is it a mentality of > attacking vs. defensive footwork or maybe just a hole in my knowledge > of fma footwork. When you say "mentally switching", you mean like a conscious decision? At some point, I realized that I was always fighting strong side forwards, emptyhanded or not. For me, the footwork is a matter of scale: if the weapon is shorter so is the distance between my opponent and myself and so is the time interval available to move What might be a defensive triangle step while holding a stick, is slipping a punch while emptyhanded - same-same, just a smaller scale. The tai chi and the kali are very similar in terms of footwork, actually, because there's a lot of 45 degree angulation in tai chi, too. Having done martial arts for over 40 years now, I'd like to think I just do the right footwork in each situation, whatever style it is, but who knows. :-) --Steve B.
