Also, your e-mail implies that martial arts instructors from the EU travelling to UK (for example) do not need this work visa. Is this assumption correct ? Thanks, Brian Johns Date: Tue, 9 Jun 2009 10:56:46 +0100 From: iPat To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Guro Inosanto UK Seminar cancelled Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Bob Breen has been forced to cancel the London July seminar due to problems with Visa requirements that have seen several Martial Arts Instructors from outside the EU being refused entry to the UK. New legislation has required that anyone teaching applies for a work visa and the timescale has led to the unfortunate cancellation of this seminar. Anyone booked on the course should contact Bob Breen. --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Julian Gilmour To: Escrima Digest Date: Wed, 10 Jun 2009 08:37:54 +0000 Subject: [Eskrima] FMA Footwork Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Hi all Other than a few seminars in other arts/systems, and when my teacher departs from it, I have had very practical little exposure to anything other than Inosanto/Lacoste footwork. Can anyone recommend where to get a good look at some FMA footwork on Youtube etc? (More Inosanto/Lacoste would be good, too) Thanks in advance Julian _________________________________________________________________ With Windows Live, you can organise, edit, and share your photos. http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/134665338/direct/01/ --__--__-- Message: 4 Date: Wed, 10 Jun 2009 10:12:10 +0100 Subject: Re: [Eskrima] Guro Inosanto UK Seminar cancelled From: iPat To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net I assume its purely down to foreign nationals coming in and conducting business without paying to tax to either govt. I suspect this comes from the tit-4-tat UK-US legislation that arose after 9-11 which required any UK visitor to the US to apply for a visa. This would of course decimate, for example, the tourist industry so while it was put on hold they looked at other measures and i would guess this is one such area. I know of one instructor who was sent home on the next flight as he did not have the necessary visa. What caused them to be alerted to him i cannot say, but they did a quick web search and found flyers for his seminars. Whilst seminar hosts are looking to find guidelines, I think Bob Breen felt it inapropriate to risk having Guro Inosanto treated in such a manner. Meantime any US instructor should enquire about business visa for seminar work in the UK, allthough since then i have seen several instructors pass through without incident. EU nationals can move and work anywhere within the EU.
