I think all the improvised weapons you mention would be very adequate protection. But as Nick Hughs mention it sounds like anything you deliberately make into a weapon can be viewed as a liability for you .We have similar laws in the US.I could carry ten firearms on me if I wanted and be in full compliance, but if I carried a retractable baton in my coat pocket that is considered a deadly weapon and I would be fined a misdemeanor violation ....go figure. I never said all of are laws made sense..As iPat correctly mention this is a public forum and just the mere action of stating that you are looking to acquire a improvised weapons could come back to haunt you .I myself have never been a guy that plays by the rules anyway ......so it doesn’t much bother me to make statements of that nature , I do disagree with Nick about the effectiveness of the dulo dulo (point to point ) impact weapon . This weapon when trained properly is extremely effective and devastating to the recipient.I have seen the way the kubotan is used and I am not overly impressed with their techniques. FMA systematic approach to employing this weapon is with rapid strikes in a consecutive manner and destroying you opponent limbs and gray matter. Why at the first look it would be problematic to deploy the weapon in a rapid manner, it is pre deployment that I suggest. When I traveled to PI this past winter and when I did finally make it to town and walk the market streets. I successfully pre deployed my edge weapon inside of a brown paper bag that I acquired from a street bakery and carried it in hand an walked through out the streets undetected . . I’m sure you could easily pull this off without any acknowledgment from anyone as well. The cane that was mention also is a fine weapon and on my trip it passed through airport security fine and I even got bumped ahead and seated before everyone else....that's what I call a perk LOL Although ...I did feel very guilty about that one :( I would think in your situation that possible a high quality flash light say....from Sure Fire would fit the bill.I don’t mean the one that has defender written on it with prongs that tear holes in your pocket .I mean a good quality metal one that is very non discipt .If you think it cant hold up to impacts rest assured Sure Fire has put all their flash light to the test and can withstand alot of impact.I would only ad that not only can this be used as a impact weapon but obviously using the light as a momentary loss of sight followed by movement will greatly aid in your survival wether it be dogging bullets or fists. Not to mention you being able to deploy your own weapons as well.I carry a Sure Fire G2 (39.00 US) in my left hand when walking in a low light environment. It is pre deployed and you really cant even notice it at all especially in low light. If you do decide to go this route I would recommend you get something at least 60 lumens but no more than 120 lumens .In a indoor urban environment employing the light feature will blind you as well as your adversary if more than 120 lumens.I would think that both the cane and flash light would give you a pretty secure line of defense .If you do opt for the cane as a first line of defense I will shamelessly throw my good friend John Benner at T.D.I. name out again he has developed a awesome combat cane and worth taking a look at if you go down that road.I do like Nicks idea about getting a note from the doctor. There is nothing wrong with layers of insulation when in a environment that frowns upon this kind of thing. I don’t think I’m one of the gentleman that you thought spoke eloquently but I will give you my perspective from a guy that has boots on the ground everyday . My take on it is that to be extreme in life style and government falls short too harmonize a populous with the correct cohesion to live in relative peace. The conservative view point in the center of the compass is the conservative view point of are founding fathers and I’m afraid that time has long past this great democracy. There are far too many liberal men and woman in charge and my biggest fear is that we stray to far too the eastern part of the compass that you have narrated in your novel . This thread has been very interesting to say the least and whyI do not agree with alot of what I have heard ,I think we have all agreed.....to disagree and leave it at that .I will say that its been awhile since everyone's post have caught my attention and I didn’t just read them and hit the delete button.Im looking forward to training with you again soon take care and God Bless. STAY LOW AND CHECK 360 JOHN PS: seeing how it is relevant to this next thread ,do you still carry that cane tethered to your wrist with a lanyard ?I was very impressed with the techniques you demonstrated to me with your cane in Chicago last year. --- william mcgrath wrote: > Hi Folks, > > I just finished an excellent book that addresses this subject: Liberty and Tyranny by Mark Levin. http://www.amazon.com/Liberty-Tyranny-Conservative-Mark-Levin/dp/1416562850 > I highly recommend it. > > Chapter four of my fantasy novel Asulon also has a section that describes how the founding fathers sought a balence between freedom and responsibility. It just takes training. If nothing else, they make a good 'loaded fist', and if you've trained extensively in palm stick work this increases their use exponentially. Kubotans are a tricky issue. I've a student who was arrested for carrying a simple kubotan - he was simply using it as a keychain and the police argued that it was a banned weapon. In fact under UK law the only kinds of kubotan that are banned are the ones with spikes on them. So he was exonerated because he could argue that he wasn't carrying it to cause harm, simply to carry his keys on. Personally, I carry a knife for work. I do actually require one particularly as I work in the countryside and use it for rope, paper, tree branches etc. For defence I have been known to carry an impact karambit, which is fun to use and works as a spanner for my bicycle. I also carry a hefty pen, bought from Tescos, that has a nice weight and point to it for palm stick work. You can also carry a walking cane / stick. It is perfectly legal and you do not need an excuse to walk with one. Just look at any hikers in the lakes, peak district or dales. I have a nice blackthorn stick that was made for me by a friend at work. Hope this is of use, Ste O _________________________________________________________________ Windows Live Messenger: Celebrate 10 amazing years with free winks and emoticons. http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/157562755/direct/01/ --__--__-- Message: 5 From: MSKBEvans@aol.com Date: Wed, 29 Jul 2009 07:47:42 EDT To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Arms for the UK legal system Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net How about a screwdriver and two small pipe clamps?
