The “Filipino Martial Arts Eskrima” workshop held in the morning of Sept. 26 at the Arts and Sciences lobby served as the culminating activity of all the PE 2 Arnis classes of Hontiveros and Palermo. Workshop instructors Dan Ritchell Guba and Cesario Perez performed exhibitions using the Arnis canes before proceeding to the workshop proper. The participants were given canes in exchange for the P150 payment. Perez, a black belter, won a gold medal in last year's Arnis competition at the Ayala Center Cebu, besting other competitors from various parts of the world. Different striking and blocking techniques were performed by the participants during the workshop. The students were taught about the courtesy bow and the stances in Arnis fighting, including footworks. “Without proper footwork, either you go out of balance or hurt yourself,” Perez said. The workshop went for hours with Hontiveros and Palermo assisting the instructors. Before formally closing the workshop, Perez wowed the audience with his breathtaking Arnis stunts in single and double canes. The participants, who performed the skills in pairs, were given certificates after the workshop. The students later gave positive remarks when asked to comment about the workshop. Palermo announced that hopefully next semester, an arnis team would be formed in UP Cebu. /UP Cebu Masscom student Beverly Gil R. Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Not so long ago there was a brief thread here concerning a MA instructor in my town. He got done for damages incurred by one of his students during a demonstration of a leg lock. I understand the argument accepted by the judge in this case was that he did not know what he was signing when he signed the waiver (I have this from one of the interested parties). So it seems that even if you are an adult and sign a waiver in Canada it may not mean a whole lot as there are ways around it. Michael Koblic Campbell River, BC BTW does speaking to a camera before a seminar/training sesion add to the protection factor :-) ? --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2009: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
