I'm not sure what it was I took but, after two days without sleep, I tried to walk home to Cambridge from London. I managed to get a lift for part of the journey, but I only got as far as a place called Loughton. Once there, I was convinced that I was in Trumpington, a village just outside of Cambridge where I lived. Because I truly believed I was near to home, I went to a house that I thought was where I lived. I then stumbled around in the garden, looking for a way in. The owner came out, took me inside, and covertly called the Police. I was in a confused and mentally drained state. I needed care and attention, which I got. On the other hand, had someone set a trap up of some kind for trespassers I would have walked straight into it - in all my true innocence. Interesting observation. I am told that they put padding on lamp-posts in Oxford street because people injured themselves walking into them while texting. True or not, things seem to have changed in UK over the last 25 years. In our modern world those few seconds of "self-defense" may have years of litigation, emotional, and financial consequences. I am sure that most of us who have been in the game long enough have been impacted by the consequences of our martial practice directly or 2nd hand though our students. It's an important area to be knowledgeable about and to teach others. I would add to Marc Denny's comment about the nature of waiver's in California. Each area has it's own quirks when it comes both to the letter of the law and how it's implemented. Living here in the Philippines... well let's just say that there can be wide variances between the two. I remember visiting this one FMA school, years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area. This was during the time when I carried an obvious "chip on my shoulder" about whose style and instructor was the best. The first thing that was mentioned was that the instructor was a lawyer and then they pointed out all the other students who where lawyers and their legal specialties. Needless to say, I and my fellow visitors were on our best behavior :) Start chatting with friends on the all-new Yahoo! Pingbox today!!
