Gathering of Warriors in Vallejo (Mel Orpilla) --__--__-- Message: 1 Date: Thu, 22 Oct 2009 15:37:37 -0700 (PDT) From: Mel Orpilla To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Gathering of Warriors in Vallejo Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net FMA practioners, We will be holding a historic gathering of Guros, Masters and Grand Masters in Vallejo, CA on Sunday November 1. The organizers hope this will be a day of sharing and learning on a level of Brotherhood and total respect. We will be honoring Grand Master Emil Bautista of the Kajukenbo Self Defense Institute in Vallejo for having the oldest martial arts school and the longest operating Filipino-owned business in the northern Bay Area. The organizers will be bringing the arts to many high school students who will be earning extra credit for their attendance at this event. To provide a hands-on experience, we will be bringing hundreds of lightweight PVC "sticks" for first-timers to try their hand at at least two of the arts that day. There will also be vendors selling everything from Max's Fried Chicken to FMA gear. IThe whole event is in celebration of Filipino American History Month.  It will take place on Sunday, November 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hogan High School gymnasium at 850 Rosewood St. near the corner of Georgia St. in Vallejo. All proceeds will be donated to the Hogan High School Pilipino Classes to pay for resource materials, classroom supplies, school activities and possible fieldtrips. The event is open to the public.   There will be hands-on lessons for all participants regardless of their background in martial arts. Invited are Master Brando Castillo, Guro George Cabiles, Grand Master Alex France, Grand Master Emil Bautista, Grand Master Ver Villasin, Master Michael Giron, Grand Master Robert Castro and recent Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee, Grand Master John Bais. In addition, the Hogan Pilipino Class students will provide entertainment during the day showcasing what they’re learning in their classes. Vendors selling food and Filipino items will be available throughout the day. The highlight at the end of the day will be tournament fighting demonstrations with real fighters, judges and scoring. Admission to the event is $5 for students and $10 for the general public.  For more information contact Mel Orpilla at (707) 477-1159 / mel9661@orpilla.com or John Santa Catalina (707) 384-4526 / johnsantacatalina@yahoo.com. --__--__-- _______________________________________________ Eskrima mailing list Eskrima@martialartsresource.net http://martialartsresource.net/mailman/listinfo/eskrima Subscribe or Unsubscribe: http://eskrima-fma.net Old digest issues @ ftp://ftp.martialartsresource.com/pub/eskrima Copyright 1994-2009: Ray Terry, MartialArtsResource.com, Sudlud.com Standard disclaimers apply.
