I have experienced them first hand, but only in a noisy nightclub, so I don’t know whether it made a loud noise or not, on detonation. I am writing a novel and one has just been set off, and I was wondering what they sound like. Specifically, it is one used by the riot police/CRS in France during the world cup in France ’98. Any LEOs/armed forces/anyone else know whether they are generally silent, hissing, or go Bang! The more detail, the better. Thanks in advance. ‘Never raise your hand to your children - it leaves your midsection unprotected.’ - Robert Orben.
