Cabacungan Jr. Philippine Daily Inquirer 11/24/2009 MANILA, Philippines—Arnis, the Filipino martial art which uses rattan sticks as weapons, is on the verge of being formally declared the Philippines’ national sport. The House of Representatives has already approved on third and final reading a bill declaring Arnis as the national sport and transmitted it to the Senate where arnis enthusiast, Senator Miguel Zubiri, was expected to take the lead in its approval. South Cotabato Rep. Arthur Pingoy Jr., the main author of House Bill 6516, said arnis deserved to be hailed as the national sport considering that it has evolved as a distinct martial art along with judo karate and taekwondo. Pingoy said it was about time to elevate arnis considering that it has spawned avid practicioners not only in the Philippines but also in other countries such as the United States, Canada, Germany, among others, where international Arnis federations and organizations have mushroomed. Negros Oriental Rep. Pryde Henry Teves said that the bill would finally address the "collective sentiment to put arnis in its rightful historical place in the country." --__--__-- Message: 2 Date: Tue, 24 Nov 2009 21:43:04 -0800 (PST) From: Sam D To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Dan Inosanto Seminar - Jacksonville, FL 01/09-01/10/10 Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Event Date:  01/09 - 01/10/2010 Event: Guro Dan Inosanto Seminar   Time:   10:00am - 4:00pm   Location:  The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Police Academy                    Florida State College - North Campus (formerly Florida Community College)                    4715 Capper Road                    Jacksonville, FL 32218   Cost:  Pre-registration - $95 (1 day) $180 (2 days)            Post registration:  $100 (1day) $220 (2 days)   Contact:  (310) 578-7773  Inosanto Academy (www.inosanto.com)  or                   Warrior Arts                   11764 Marco Beach Drive Suite #2                   Jacksonville, FL 32224                                   (904)645-7000                   www.warriorartsacademy.com   Link to Flyer here or http://inosanto.com/adobedocs/20100109_florida.pdf   Link to register for the seminar here. or http://inosanto.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=126 --__--__-- Message: 3 From: Karl Vorwerk Date: Wed, 25 Nov 2009 00:07:13 -1000 To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Subject: [Eskrima] Geocities site General Ablin Reply-To: eskrima@martialartsresource.net Does anyone know who put up this site? http://www.geocities.com/ebjustimbaste/ablen/ It's down now.
