What about his opponent? How is he feeling? I can't imagine what it must be like for him to go on with his life knowing he accidentally killed someone in a tournament. Christ. >Perhaps it has come to pass that we, as humans, do not feel the pain >unless it directly effects us. We have numbed by the many deaths and >violence around us that one more death is nothing new. It's true... so many people just don't care anymore... I think sometimes I'm just over-sensitive, I still feel sad when I read the newspaper. It's depressing to see all this insane violence on tv and not care. I remember, just before my dojang closed for the holidays I was informed that one of my friends there was away because her father had killed her mother, then tried to kill herself. Great news for the holidays. My instructor and several of us from the dojang went to the funeral, and I think my friend was rather surprised and touched to see us.. Okay, I forgot what my point was. But it's true. As a TKD community we should show our support. It's always an appreciated gesture. Do you use hand-targets? If so, for my adult students, I ask them to image the target as the face of some attacking their child or other family member. In my kids class, I ask them "how hard can you hit your sister/brother?" To which they properly reply that they can not (or else they are out of my program). I then ask "How hard can you hit the targets?" To which they properly reply, "As hard as I want!" Hitting things just feels good! A great stress-reliever. I am deeply saddened for the man and his family. I plan on holding a ceremony to honor his passing and pray for his family. I am very interested to learn more details on how this tragic incident happened. Can anyone please supply more detail? What kind of kick and where did it land? I personally have decided not to spar in competition again unless I wear a full face shield. I have witnessed aleast one serious injury at EVERY competition I have seen; broken nose, unconsciousness, broken jaw, teeth, etc. This is nuts! I believe we should all pause to consider the implications of full contact sparring to the head. Certainly its not allowed for kids and color belts, but it is allowed for BB adults. I strongly believe we should upgrade our equipment. Perhaps a helmet more akin to a footbal helmet would offer better protection? There was a time when hockey players spurned the use of helmtes and shields. A time when foot ball players only wore leather. May the light of the Buddha shine on this young man and guide him to the next life safely and speedily. Namu Myoho Renge Kyo, Namu Myoho Renge Kyo, Namu Myoho Renge. The student does all her techniques very well except that their is no explosive force in them. They are performed as if they were dance moves. I have tried many things and am unable to change this manner. _______________________________________________________________- I'm sure you don't know me, I'm a 2nd Dan in TSD, but fighting is one of my strong points. I dont know what you've tried so I'll start with the basics, don't think it's an insult to your techniques. first of all there is no such thing as an "overly controlled" technique, power is derrived from control and balance as well as correct execution. stress that her upper body remain upright and her waist do all the Counter twisting so as to keep her balance. the KiHap is also very important in explosive power application, make sure she KiHaps at the impact point. for kicks lead with the kicking hip and stress full extention for Mahki techniques, stress waist twisting and full extention, make sure her elbow moves so her shoulder isnt doing all the work. clapper pads also help, teach her the good clap sound and let her train her kick like only she can. sorry I couldnt be more help AJ Woodburn 2nd Dan TSD ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
