Especially for the lower belts. I'm looking to making some changes so I'm anxious for your good ideas... Thanks. Ray Terry >> Ray, The typical class in Korea was like this: Warm up Dan jon breathing Tsugi - a kick followed by several handstrikes Breakfalls hyung Kick series pair up for hoshinsul practice Special work on some kind of drill, varied daily. The class I teach now is primarily breakfalls and Hoshinsul because it is a TKD class and they do their own hyung, kicking, etc. I fill the gaps by teaching them the falls and hoshinsul. Your post did help and I want to thank you and everyone else for responding to my many questions via the digest and email and everyone's patience with my postings and many questions. I am glad that you have found a school and instructor that are meeting your needs and that you feel you can contribute back to in a productive fashion. Sounds like you are in good balance. Anyway, I found a statistic that most people who immigrated to the US during the industrial revoultion changed their name, I mean, like 75% of them did! but I also found that my family has NEVER changed their name, hey, We're stubborn, what can I say. I mean, I am a Black Belt, and that certainly takes a hefty amount of stubbornness to achieve. yours in history AJ Woodburn Dragon102@juno.com ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. As I've been reading the threads about kids in the class ironically I also came across an ad for additional insurance for teaching children. The ad said "Prize pupil or threat to your business? What you might see as harmlesss bumps and bruises, others might see as reasons for a lawsuit. As owner of the studio, you'll be the target." Hard to disagree with this statement, for me anyhow. No matter how careful we are little ones can get bruised and injured. Does anyone carry additional coverage for this age group or do you not find it necessary? Has anyone had this happen or have any of you had your good intentions backfire? I know a few posters indicated that the parents wanted the instructors to be even stricter and more demanding of their children. Which of course in theory is nice. I would suspect they count on the instructor being a parent or an enforcer of something they themselves cannot do. But of course my feeling is they would also be the first to scream if something happened to their little ones whether in the school or at a tournament. And I tend to think the parent would get much more upset over a bruise than the child. I would be interested in all opinions on this article. Some of his comments were "Since the U.S. team is in such bad shape." "We should welcome an infusion of talented athletes into the now-stagnant taekwondo athletic pool." "Unfortunately, the talent pool for the U.S. national taekwondo team does not contain the best athletic talent that is available...." Now, of course I just pulled these few statements out of a one page article. None the less they are pretty profound statements whether incorporated into an article or standing alone. If you've read the article I would certainly appreciate thoughts on this, including the timing of the article with the fast arrival of the Olympics. At age 50 and with a lot of flexibility problems that are agravated by bursitis, I'm continually challenged just to keep up with the basics. It seems that I have the head knowlege and heart attitude down just fine but my body fights me all the way and every class. After 2 years of opposing my own body and bearing up with the discomfort and pain, I have NO intention of giving up. This is how I will win this battle. Progress is very slow but I'm in no hurry. I guess committment and patience will be the biggest factors in overcoming this opponent. - -Ray 1st dan HKD Blue belt TKD (and some day I WILL get a black belt!) - -- Ray Simmons EMC Corporation res@mil.emc.com 5 technology Dr. (508)435-1000 x55669 Milford, Ma. 01757 - -------- Opinions are mine alone --------- ------------------------------ From: Date: Tue, 23 Feb 1999 07:20:41 -0800 (PST) Subject: Re: the_dojang: HKD class format > Tsugi - a kick followed by several handstrikes Alain, Can you expand on this a bit???
