Sorry to ask again, but the latest volunteer to help me figure out the missing from line bug seems to have dropped off the edge of the earth. So, another plea for help. Looking for someone that knows sendmail, sendmail.cf, Majordomo, and PERL. Any takers??? Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com ------------------------------ From: Aaron Harmon Date: Mon, 05 Apr 1999 11:44:35 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: weight training I am thinking on adding some weight training to my workouts. I was going to do mostly dumbell work. My goal is not size, but strength and muscular endurance in my upper body, which, despite my size, has always been lacking. I was wondering if anybody had some suggestions for excercizes. I am familliar with weight training, but most gyms and weight regimens seem to want to make you a bodybuilder, instead of a martial artist. I doi not have room for a full weight bench, so i was hoping for stuff that would not require that if possible, and i do not have the time or money to join a gym to use their benches. Does anybody have suggestions? Some questions: Should the lifting phase of the exercize be explosive or slow. (i.e. push/pull the weight up quickly or slowly) Should i work on high reps and lower weights or higher weights and lower reps. Can anybody recommend a book on this subject? I can look for my self, but i was wondering if wnybody had followed the advice in the book they recommend. Ray Wagner ------------------------------ From: "Jamaica Power" Date: Mon, 05 Apr 1999 18:18:01 PDT Subject: the_dojang: Promotional Testing On the thread about testing for colored and black belts it usually occurs that the Instructor or GM will have some of the advanced black belts lead the colored belt test and also interject some new questions and challenges into the 1st Dan tests. These questions and challenges are usually very spontaneous and are made to either make the tester think or perform in ways they weren't taught. Now in my experiences you would usually know (or could tell) if a student was used to performing a front kick only then the black belt would ask them to do a double or triple front kick. If they seemed confident with a front kick you might ask them to do a tornado kick. And when they gave you that puzzled look you would demo it and ask them to do likewise. With verbal testing you usually challenged them with historical questions of perhaps a greater depth than they studied for. After a few tests, just in anticipation that I might be asked to assist, I would try and think of a few good but creative questions and challenges that I didn't think any of the other black belts would duplicate. Does anybody wish to share some of the questions and challenges they have asked students to do during their tests for colored belt or black belt? Thanks.
