Would it be wise, or will it just screw me up? Also, just wondering, what other sports do you all do, if any? I've been swimming since I was like... four or something. I stopped for a while, then started again, I'm trying to get my NLS certificate(National Lifeguard Society). I find that doing both TKD and swimming improve each other, I breathe a lot easier while swimming and can swim faster than I used to. So yeah, just wondering if anyone else swims or does other stuff. :) Syl ------------------------------ From: CMPorter@webtv.net (Chris Porter) Date: Tue, 6 Apr 1999 21:25:14 -0400 (EDT) Subject: the_dojang: Testing Week. In my school testing week is as follows. Three to four weeks ahead of testing week testing packages go out to the students, these packages have essay topics, a due date for the essays and a testing date. These packages are due one week before the testing date. Only authorized examiners are allowed to read these essays. All juinor belts test on tuesday nites(white, yellow and orange belt) at 6 pm. Intermidiate belts test on wed. nites(green, purple, and blue belts)at 6 pm and senior belts test on thursday nites(brown, brown stripe, 2nd red, 2nd red stripe,1st red, 1st red stripe)at 6pm. Friday nite is reseved for black belt and Jo Gyo Nim maintinance testing. All testers are reqiured to be at the school by 5:30 on there testing nites so they can warm up and line up by 6 pm.All non testing students are encouraged to come and support there fellow students. All the "scoring" is done only by authorized examiners(separate training, Gyo Sa Nim and higher)A Jo Gyo nim is place next to the head table to call out all the commands so the examiner can focus on examining. He or She is also being tested. This sytem works out well as there is enough people there for high energy, and support, but not so many students that there is no room for there familys to come and watch. On Saturday at 11am we hold a belt ceremony and buffet, all come to this at once and man is it packed!! We do hold one make up testing one week later for those who just could not make it to there assigned testing nite. During the testing all black belts and senior belts are required to assist as needed. I wrote this because someone asked about testing cycles but I can't remember who!! Does it make sense?? My Kyo Sa Nims are both going to test for their promotion this weekend for Sa Ba Nims. I would love to wish them both the best of luck and tell them that I will be thinking about them. Does anyone have any advice about how best to do this with out seeming disrespectful? I mean- they are very skilled at what they do, and they don't really need any luck, but I would like them to know that I am thinking about them. Is there some protocol regarding this? Tang Soo! Never heard it, but I've lived it. For about 4 years before I started TKD I raced mountain bikes. I continued racing for another 3 or so after starting TKD. I rarely stretched before starting TKD and I'm still paying for it. I now have very strong legs, but it took about a year to be able to get a kick up to my head level. My front kicks (or any kick that uses that same leg motion...crescent, axe, etc) is ok now but I'm still working on side kick height. Ray "what was that pop?" Seems likely you're writing about Tom Kurz, who wrote "Stretching Scientifically" and has a video that may go by the same title. The ads for his publications feature him in a past-horizontal side split suspended across the backs of 2 folding chairs, if you've ever seen them. Kurz' recommendations seem sound to me, but I've been hampered in the implementation by lack of time, and by the contradiction between some of his recommendations and the training regimen where I practice, particularly with respect to the optimal sequence for different types of stretching.
