The nose block is very similar to the face block. It requires more timing and precision to use. When applied properly it will stop any type of strike (hand, foot or weapon), almost instantly. Experience has shown me that each time I have used it the sparring match is stopped. Note: It also prevents expensive dental bills that may occur when using a face block. Are we saying Sang Lee Has not profited from the USTU? While the organization may not profit those in charge have. Pil Sueng, Dana Glasspool >> Dear Dana, and anyone who might be curious, I know firsthandedly that President Sang Lee has not gained financially from his positions within the USTU. In fact his long involvement in the Olympic Taekwondo movement has cost him tens of thousands of his own dollars which were withdrawn from the bank accounts of his dojangs which I used to manage for him. At the recent USTU Board of Governors meeting, Past President Dong Ja Yang drew attention to this very subject. Dr. Yang recalled how, when Master Sang Lee served as US National Team Coach, he donated 3 to 5 thousand dollars at each international event to help defray the travel costs for our athletes. These cash donations, of course, were in addition to the many months he left his dojang and family behind to work (voluntarily) with our teams. Perhaps this explains why Sang Lee is just about the only "politician," who enjoys continuous support from our Athlete's Committees. No, Sang Lee is not the kind of man who asks "how can I profit" from a situation. He, rather, has become a leader because of the many personal sacrifices he has made in the name of taekwondo. I know, I was there to pick up the slack, run the school, teach his university classes, and console his wife and sons when time (again) came for Sang Lee to hit the road. Sincerely, Master S.E. In some desparate attempt to get some exercise that is somehow related to the martial arts, I've been doing some of those cardio kickboxing tapes late at night when everyone else in the house is asleep. Anyway, I have put a review of the tapes I have seen on line. You can check it out at: http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Danny_Abramovitch/cardio_kb_rev.html I'll update it when I get more information. - -- Danny ------------------------------ From: Chris Hernandez Date: Tue, 18 May 1999 15:12:15 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: To TKD or not to TKD I have been debating with myself the last couple of weeks for the reason that I am considering dropping out of my trad TKD training and studying Kickboxing and possibly competing in some Full contact Muay Thai type competitions!! They are either the same or very similar (I've done a little mT). The mT knees are great as are the elbows. Different from the way I learned to throw them in TKD. The boxing hand skills are fun, too. Guess it is all in what you want out of your study and not sure one would have to stop one to start the other.
