Okay, you took this course for self-confidence. The martial arts proclaims self-confidence, integrity, indomitable spirit, perseverence and respect to name a few. And oh my gosh he's a something something black belt.. Wow!!!! There you are.. A doo-fus in a class of talented people, in a situation you don't understand. You are struggling to maintain dignity and hope they won't throw you out because you're not the classic example of what you think should be a martial artist. And then here you are throwing an awkward front kick and you're instructor comes along and gently touches your wrist. You are trusting, you think, wow a touching sensitive person with understanding. He sees how stupid I feel and is helping me along and inspiring me, and it's subtle so no one else will see. Next time, he not only touches your wrist but holds onto it just for moments and then touches your shoulder with his other hand. Why does this situation make you feel sort of funny inside? No, he's just encouraging you. That's all. He's one of those touchy feeling people and understands your predicament. Your husband thought you were foolish for starting martial arts; or perhaps you are all alone and vulnerable and are taking m.a because you were abused in the past; your boyfriend would never understand what you were experiencing.... well, it must be YOUR imagination..I mean martial arts is about integrity. Nah, what you're feeling must me your own feelings. How silly. But why was the situation so awkward. He had a funny look in his eyes too!. Nah... that couldn't be. How silly I am and how ridiculous I must be...Geeesssshhh.. Until time goes on and you find out you were right. Your Martial Arts Instructor is a womanizer and takes advantage of the vulnerability of his students in very subtle ways. Comments from men and women... Should you touch your students? Whether you are a female instructor or male instructor. jamaica _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Seriously.. From my personal emails we have so many shared experiences and items that need to be addressed. There are so many common themes and threads... that could add to our sense of self-confidence and well-being during our training. I do know of another active women's forum but the topics seem not as similar as those on this forum. Just a statement,,,take it for what it's worth or contribute more... Don't care what school, what style. This is not political, just something I personally always wanted to do cause I've always wanted to do it and now I'm in a position to do it. I will pay for 10 students (uniforms and belts) and whatever else is necessary for a truly needy student in your school. Including participation in sports competition and registration in your school. I will also pay for their belt tests to black belt if they maintain integrity and discipline and meet the strict criteria of your schools. If you have someone you feel deserves this help, contact me by personal email. I expect accountability and logs of the child's performance. jamaica _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. No, there were no Kukkiwon 10th Dans (except I really did think that Dr. Kim was an honorary 10th Dan ???) and he indicated that he never thought there would be any given his explanation of what the number 10 implys in the Korean culture and what 3 implys (and then 3x3). He did explain that they were considering an honorary award to be sparingly given out after 9th Dan, but that it would NOT be a 10th Dan. I think we're probably the only sport that does that during a break. And it could be that maybe I just need to go to more tournaments that have different demos? Are there any? And if half-time is not about martial arts then what do you offer the audience instead? Jamaica At the last World MDK TSD Federation tournament I went to, yes there were MA demos at halftime, but there was also some Traditional Korean Folk dancers the performed. Sounded like they made music by beating pots and pans.... A few years ago at a world KSW tournament, again, not only was there MA demos, but Grandmaster Suh had Korean dancers and fancy drummers performing. My 2 young girls really liked that part. The most different thing I've seen was last year at the World Karate Union Hall of Fame ceremony. Again, not only were there some excellent MA demos, but young girls doing some kind of Celtic dancing.... Where they dance around on their toes across swords, etc. Maybe it was Irish or Scottish dancing?? I think someone even played bagpipes...
