Wrong. Could you please define Ms. Illona what you mean by absorbing a kick. I was sparring a male black belt in class. Approximately 15 years ago. I was also a competitor black belt at the time. We both wore protective gear. He placed an extremely hard roundhouse kick to my side. Unfortunately his kick went up and under my hogu and broke three of my ribs. You could literally hear them pop during the match. Depending, expecially for women, on the strength of their bones including issues such as osteoporosis, extra care should be given at all times. Now this was a long time ago for me at least 15 years. I was not an older woman at that time and yet the strength of his kick was no match for my ribs. I had the hogu on. I was turned so as not to get the full impact of his kick. My hands and arms were held in a protective fashion. jamaica _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I used to spend a lot of time sparring outside class without any gear, working footwork and technique and combinations etc. In the long run I found that to be detrimental to my overall sparring skill though. You get used to doing things that you cannot get away with in contact sparring. Anyone else have comments or experience on this? In 1973 I began Tang Soo Do at the University of Illinois / Champaign-Urbana TSD club. It was a small club and the two Dans that came down from Chicago to promote us were two guys, one a 1st Dan one a 2nd Dan. The only names I can recall are Chuck and Dan. Today they would probably be ~50 years old. Does anyone know a TSD Chuck or Dan that might fit this minimal description?
