So many of you have given generously to this effort. Nedzad and Anela are most grateful for all you've given so far. As the Internet Martial Arts Community, collectively we seem to be able to gather enough items every 3-4 months to ship to Sarajevo. It's that time again! Please consider sending your previously worn uniforms, MA books, training materials, or equipment to Sarajevo, Bosnia. In particular, Nedzad and Anela of Sarajevo have requested more training books and videos and re-breakable boards. Small size uniforms would be useful to them as well. Please reply to this email directly if you would like to donate. The URL below is a link to letters and photos from our friends in Sarajevo. The letters are from Nedzad Kapic who is finding a way to join people together through Martial Arts. http://www.acdk.org/ and then choose TaeKwondo in Sarajevo thanks, Judi cjudi@sprint.net Oriental Sports Academy ------------------------------ From: "Wilson, Aimee" Date: Mon, 21 Jun 1999 12:55:37 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: Instructional Videos I am shopping around for some instructional videos on WTF forms, proper techniques for kicks and sparring tips. Instead of just picking some at random, I was hoping some of you may know of some videos that you thought were helpful or some you might have recommended to your students. I am testing for my orange belt in about a month and I want to be completely prepared. Any organization built up by people who deliberately choose to have no affiliation, should be considered for renegade-hood.>> Sorry, I didn't realize you meant that anyone not affiliated with WTF is considered renegade. When you put it like that, I guess you're right. I'm not trying to defend him, because he can do that for himself (mailto:hq@itatkd.com). Although I've trained in TKD in the past, I'm strictly TSD now, and personally not connected with or have any affiliations/preferences for any TKD organization. <> Interesting viewpoint. I'm not sure I personally agree with that though, in my case. If things keep changing, even in TSD (as they have), I may not want to keep changing. I may want to continue to keep the "old" ways (ie: traditional) and not make the changes myself. I haven't tried that "sine wave" thing the ITF does now, don't think I want to... guess I'd be considered a renegade. :-) Or would those who keep wanting to change things be considered the renegade? You could view it both ways, IMO. Your right though... at what point in time do you cut off and say that is traditional prior to that time? Or is traditional actually keeping up with the evolving state of the art? and non traditional would actually be those who choose not to keep up? Is a word for the older stuff that would be better than "Traditional" be "Classical"?? {shrug} To each his own. BTW, Grandmaster Benko lists 24 (Chang Hun) forms in his system, not 20. (I know, minor details...) I'd be interested in Grandmaster Benko's response if you pose your questions to him. I found him to be very helpful and informative. I'm sure he'd be happy to answer your questions. I'm sure the other members of the Dojang-Digest List would be interested too. For WTF forms, the tapes blessed by the Kukkiwon are very good. I believe you can still get them from Sang Moo Sa in Belflower, California. 800-346-3116 For sparring check out www.coachhanlee.com or www.tkd-edu-resource.com. Others? Does anybody know how I can find out if the Kukkiwon processed my dan certification? It's been already several months and still no certificates. >> hi eddie, probably, your kukkiwon certification is being processed through the ustu. it's still just as valid if it's processed through the ustu and they do a pretty speedy job. from what i have learned from experienced martial artists, it takes anywhere from one to several months to process one's kukkiwon certificate. mine took less than two. i received it in the mail today. i have also learned that normally, only the instructor who sent in your application may inquire about it's status. fwiw, my recommendation would be to practise patience. if you feel that you have exhausted it, then i might suggest asking your master about it if you feel that it is appropriate. in some places, it might not be. as a last resort, i would suggest going to the ustu webpage: www.ustu.org, and e-mailing them about your dan certificate. even if they did not process your application, they should be able to assist. try to understand that they are swamped and have limited human resources. melinda ------------------------------ From: ChunjiDo@aol.com Date: Tue, 22 Jun 1999 00:20:18 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: absorbing a kick In a message dated 6/18/99 7:27:20 AM Pacific Daylight Time, the_dojang-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << My personal experience with Hogu's and why I advocate for women that they either wear the extra thick ones in class or use two.
