While I feel that one should be able to keep their belt rankings when changing schools, I don't think that it applies when somebody is starting an entirely new style. If somebody came to my school with a black belt ( or that styles' equivilent ) they would have to start at the beginning. Usually, I've seen that those students rise very quickly because of their previous training, not always, but usually. If you go to a school that makes you start over then it would signal to me that it may not be the best school to join. Either pride or money might be the driving force of that school rather than teaching the art. Mo _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hopefully all should be working fine now, but please let me know if you encounter any problems with the new website. The disk space available is much larger, thus users are now able to search through ~1500 informational files and past digest issues (all issues since 1/1/1996). This will hopefully be useful when you need to research a particular topic. For those with digital video cameras, I'd also like to experiment with a select number of 'technique of the week' submittals. Interested? Just email me your Real Video file and I'll experiment with putting it up on the new website. Realizing that the journey and not the destination is important is not the only motivation for some people to begin again at white belt. When I got back into TKD after a 10 year break, my goal was just to get some exercise consistently. I was in poor shape and had lost a lot of flexibility. I would have felt very uncomfortable wearing my previous belt, even if it was a color belt and not a BB. I'd rather be a very good white belt than a poor red belt :-) Stan Lim 3rd Kup, WTF-TKD slim@employees.org ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Sun, 4 Jul 1999 08:37:37 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V6 #339 ******************************** Support the USTU by joining today!
