As I understand it, most every male is required to serve. Most serve in the military, some serve as assistant police. There may be another (more) possibility. Those in the military are required to have Dan level certification. If they don't get it, Dan level, in some other art they are provided very short and intense TKD training leading to a Kukkiwon 1st Dan.
