It > must be the padded and springing gymnastics floor that throws me off.. Well.....that's the story I'd stick with. *snarf* > I do like landing in a back stance for the low kwon soo, then on the second kwon > soo reaching out deep in a deep front stance. I think that's how I'll do it. If that's how you are comfortable doing it....then that is how you should do it. We so often forget that Hyung are not written in stone. Variation is completely acceptable and actually should be encouraged...provide the practitioner can show meaning for the movement and actually apply it. A form is a Pattern.......not a COPY. Pattern gives it recognition....ergo.....you can tell it is Kong Sang Koon because of the basic elements present in the OVERALL PATTERN. There is no RIGHT way to do.....but there are definitely some BETTER WAYS than others....and some that are wrong only because they break the PATTERN that makes the form recognizable as Kong Sang Koon. Now...to illustrate this point...and Mac...you'd love this and I'd love to show this version to you.....in my Kong Sang Koon we have a combination Ahneso Pahkero Chagi eso Edan Dora Dwee Chagi ero. (that is an inside crescent kick and jump spinnin back kick combination) right before the drop that is in the hyung. Once down....you do an Iron Broom and Dragon Tail Sweep combination before rising to the knee strike and supported uppercut combination. And yes....I did see this done in Korea...but it was only done in the dojang I trained in.....probably because of the influence of Chinese styles (My Master was currently working on Jang Kwon Hyung and my Senior was already a 4th Degree Sash in 16 style Kung Fu ...and he specialized in Drunken techniques). Makes the whole form look more like Wu Shu than Tang Soo. I kinda like it....and I like to do it...but it is a young mans form....and...well...you know the story........so I teach both ways. Actually Mac....I do know a form meaning for the moves you mention that involves the back stance while doing the Kwan Soo combination. In it...the back stance is essential to ensure balance. In this instance, the attacker is behind you and is throwing a front or side kick. As you turn....you are actually cutting the kick away (like Wing Chun people would do) and then going under to trap the leg. Then you dump him on his head. Well...hopefully.....in time.....we will get a chance to meet at some tournament and can exchange some stuff.
