I am doing some personal researches but also some researches for romanian martial arts journal and I would appreciate any info regarding the traditions of TAEKYON - web related pages ,history, techniques , fundamentals of TAEKYON , etc .... I will also appreciate any private contacts from TAEKYON practitioners. Thanks a lot for your help best regards , Cristian ------------------------------ From: "Darlene" Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 20:23:28 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: Re: Testing too soon Lorraine, I strongly believe that no one should test before they are physically and mentally ready. I know that some instructors challenge students to test when they see that the student is really ready, even though the student is nervous, but that's OK. I plan to take an entire year between 2nd kup and 1st dan; my instructor understands this and agrees with me. This is to make sure that I am fully ready with all my forms and techniques. I moved fairly quickly up to 2nd kup, testing every 2-3 months, but I worked hard at it, and my instructor agreed I was ready. My instructor is actually less likely to recommend us for a test than we are believe that we are ready. However, I did move through the kup levels quickly, so my techniques and forms are not as ingrained and practiced as they could be. A question for you: are you required to pay for each test, even if you don't feel ready? If so, this sounds like a way for your instructor to rake in more money. You need to either take a stand with your instructor and tell him you'd rather take more time between tests, or find another dojang, even if it's in a different style. You may have to learn different forms, but if the new instructors are good, they will take what you know and help you improve those skills, respecting your timeframe. Yes, if you are concerned about injuries and there is a lot of them this is not the school for you. My own school is relaxed on sparring equipment also but other than bruises and a case of tendonitis (me) and a back injury or two (not serious). Not much. My tendonitis was caused by free sparring w/o equipment on. We have it, but were just a little careless about it this time. My instructor knew about my sore wrist for a month. When I e-mailed him with the doc's result this past week he got on my case about not mentioning injuries. I told him we have to get stricter about the equipment. I hate doc's and my clinic lately has been developing a how are you going to pay us policy before ppl can see the doc. So, when I get things like this I let them go until it is almost to late. I have to wear a splint now for 2-4 weeks. Anyhow, ask about things like this before joining another school. Watch a few times before your decision too. U know, you make me sort of jealous. It took me two years to get to blue belt. WTF style is a lot different than my style of kyukido. WTF can get to BB in a year or two. I have to wait almost 2 more years. I am brown stripe now. Oh, by the way. My middle name is Lorraine. Wonderful name. My mother liked it I guess because I have a half sister named Lorraine too. Donna - -- NO!! My cycle doesn't leak! It marks it's territory. ------------------------------ From: LJSFLEM@aol.com Date: Sun, 1 Aug 1999 11:45:02 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V6 #375 I did not mentioned when I signed when I am from Lorraine Garfield, NJ From: LJSFLEM@aol.com Date: Sat, 31 Jul 1999 14:50:43 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V6 #374 I am fairly new to the Digest, but need some advice. However from your msg it seems you feel this school isn't right for you. It happens. Look around, perhaps a change is in order. Also talk to your instructor about your concerns.
