If your TKD instructor can trace TKD back to the three kingdoms of Korea, I'd be interested in the lineage. :) Please send it my way. Seriously. This is most likely good advertising, but poor truth. I'd tirade, but I digress... E. Is taekwondo traditional? It definitely is although it absolutely cannot be. The worst part of this Tao is that I believe it. I truly believe an art can be fresh, dynamic, while venerable and cast in stone. History is full of Occupations where the natives were forced to learn the ways and language of newcomers while the newcomers unwittingly picked up the ways and customs of the Occupied. The result being a (resented) union that is more than the sum of it's parts. Of course there are Japanese (and Chinese) techniques. (No matter how much denied...) But Martial Art as national sport is a gift of Korea, and of the 3 kingdoms. ------------------------------ From: ChunjiDo@aol.com Date: Sun, 15 Aug 1999 13:34:30 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: listing styles of tkd In a message dated 8/12/99 8:01:17 PM Pacific Daylight Time, the_dojang-owner@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com writes: << > I'm a practicioner of Tae kwon do. IMHO, Hapkido is 2000 years old only in the logic of GM Hwang Kee with his statement that Tang Soo Do is 2000 years old. 'Martial arts are 2000 years old, Tang Soo Do is a martial art, therefore Tang Soo Do is 2000 years old.' I don't think so... :) Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Sun, 15 Aug 1999 10:45:27 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V6 #398 ******************************** Support the USTU by joining today!
