Western religions look outside of ourselves to find truth. Eastern religions look inward to find truth. I hope I'm not simplifying that too much. That is just one side of the spirituality of MA I try to keep from interfering with my beliefs. For example, when we meditate before class, I am not searching for deep within for mystical strength. I am simply trying to shake off the day and relax. So much more power comes from being relaxed. Yes, we do. I teach separate classes in Taekwondo and Eskrima, and also the gradings & belts are separate. The majority of students participate in both styles, some do only Taekwondo. Hapkido is taught by my friend (1st Dan HKD) on a seminar basis. Again, there are some people who participate and some who not. There are also some who train in more than one style, but grade only in TKD - it`s up to them. To me, if your art is in fact combination of styles, there is no need to test separately for its components. In my school, we do not teach a combination - we just teach more than one style, and the students are free to choose. IMHO again... The original cost is around $25 or so, but when you compare that to the hundreds of dollars that I spent on boards coming up through the ranks, I wish I had had them then!! ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 27 Aug 1999 15:50:30 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: Weekend As previously mentioned, the lists are now going down for the weekend.
