If it is are you referring to the White ninja that was used in the Nunchaku Form Demonstration during the movie. Chess, war game, martial arts, yeah, that's the connection... :) Works for me :) Besides, I would recommend Chess to any martial artist. It's a nice no-pain method to train yourself to think ahead tactically and strategically :) \ Chess came from Persia There's some debate as to whether it originated in India or China (kinda like the debates of the origins of many martial arts ;) \ and the word Checkmate came from the Persian for \ Shah-mat, The King is Dead (think Shah as in the former Shah of Iran). FWIW, when we're doing stepping patterns in Hapkido, and we corner out into horse stances, I'm reminded of the Knight's movement in Chess :) - -David Buehrer - -- Supervisor, Database Preparation The UnCover Company mailto:dbuehrer@denver.carl.org - -- - -- "Wisdom has two parts: having a lot to say, and not saying it." ------------------------------ From: Stan Lim Date: Fri, 10 Sep 1999 13:42:55 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: Re: martial games >The next question which came to mind is: what should the pieces look like? >Figures with legs extended in side kicks, crescent kicks, and such >immediately came to mind. Do you plan to give the 7th Dan 7 stripes on his/her teeny black belt? :-) Or, what color is the 5th Dan's belt? Different schools have different colors. Maybe you can make some sketches and post them for the group to see. Do you plan on merchandising them? Or are you going to custom/hand make your own set? Good luck!
