Their dentists have told them not to use the harder plastic ones. We are having a hard time finding a supply of these soft mouth guards and would greatly appreciate any help form this list. Is boxing consitered a martial art. Not kickboxing or anything but just plain boxing, I believe it is but not exactaly sure. Thanx alot, Kadin >> It depends on who you ask. There are some who do not count boxing and wrestling as martial arts. Why, I don't know. Boxing and wrestling are martial. You also have many that believe boxing is a much better martial art than the Asian styles that most people think of when martial arts are mentioned. Ned Beaumont authored a book called "Championship Streetfighting: Boxing as a Martial Art" While I don't put down the traditional Asian styles as much as he does (since I also study/teach Hapkido), I do agree with a lot of what he says in that book. Boxing is very effective for fighting, and has been for a long time. The nature of training that most boxers go through toughens them up a lot more than many martial art students. Face it, boxing hurts. I've had my bell rung enough while boxing to know. I have a good friend who was stationed with me in the 82nd Airborne Division back in the 80s. He was a boxer in college, before the Army. He definitely could use it on the street as well. Many martial artists just don't get this kind of training. Boxers continuously work on making their punches harder, and they are always training against opponents that are trying not to get hit and are hitting back. This is usually a lot more full contact training than most martial art school, even the ones that spar a lot. Boxing is not the ONLY way to become a good fighter, but it sure is a good way. Take a good boxer, throw in some wrestling or similar ground fighting work and you will have one tough opponent. (I always did like the movie "Fear City" with Tom Berrenger. He played a boxer that kicked the martial artist's butt at the end. But of course, the martial artist was the bad guy, and Tom the hero. Only thing I hated about that movie was that Rae Dawn Chong got killed) So yes, I'd put boxing in with martial arts, and a very good one at that. Some will remember me, but for the new people on the list I'll introduce myself. I am currently a law student at the University of Montana, where I also teach Hapkido to the UM TKD club. I also organize a meeting three times a week where myself, my training partner and anyone else who wants to join in get together and practice a variety of things. I teach hapkido, but we also practice things from other sources as well. A lot of the time is spent throwing each other around the mat trying to get the other to submit. (we do joint locks, chokes, etc) I am also the author of "Hard-Won Wisdom From The School Of Hard Knocks: How to Avoid a Fight and Things To Do When You Can't or Don't Want To." (Paladin Press) This book is about realistic self-defense and fighting. My first video will be released through Paladin Press in November. It is titled "Hapkido Hoshinsul" and is a basic video of some of my favorite Hapkido techniques and principles for self-defense. I'm currently working on a two video set for Paladin on self-defense, but we have not set a filming date yet because of my law school schedule. I also do some writing for different magazines. I look forward to sharing info with everyone on the list, and am eager to learn from all of you as well. The first dawn of the year (any year) will begin at the International Date Line which runs from North Pole down through the Bering Strait, south across the Pacific Ocean to the South Pole. By the time dawn breaks in Greenwich, it will already be noon in Fiji. Samoa, which is just east of Fiji is a whole day behind! So, Asia will be the first major land mass to witness the new year. (I had to make a Korean tie-in there somewhere, but they don't celebrate the same new year anyway.). Pil Seung, Stan Wojcoski ------------------------------ From: "G.
