Nothing like a good \ challenge to motivate you, right? :-) Have no fear, once I'm confronted with a problem it continues to nag me until I figure it out :) Figuring out the belt colors was easy: white for Pawns and Black for the other pieces. The poses for the pieces is what's frustrating me now. As you're looking straight down on a piece it shouldn't fill more than the square it's in. So if a piece is in a full extended side kick it will be pretty small. I'm trying to think of poses, stances, strikes, kicks which don't take up much horizontal space. Also, there should be a gradual increase in total height from Rook to King. If this can't be accomplished by pose, it would be easy enough to increase the height of the base progressively for each piece. But it would be coolest if it could be done by pose alone. - -David Buehrer - -- Supervisor, Database Preparation The UnCover Company mailto:dbuehrer@denver.carl.org - -- - -- "My assistant, Bob the dinasaur, will now demonstrate how to give a cat a 'fur wedgie.'" ------------------------------ From: TaoArt@aol.com Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1999 16:25:43 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Boxing as a martial art If you consider the term "martial art" being any sport that directly relates to conflict where the purpose is to increase your skills on the battle field, then boxing would most likely qualify... even in today's modern warfare arena. Fencing, archery, swordsmanship, wrestling, marksmanship, and others are sometimes also placed into this category. I don't know if this still holds true, but I was told once that all "war sports" of the olympics were held in the summer time... as opposed to the winter olympics... because war was most often held in the summer time. Anyone know if this is fact? M. This could translate in combat to minimizing ones unprocted areas and scrutinizing your opponents "positioning/mechanics" such as.. front leg kickers in a cat stance can tend to get quicker kicks off, while they trade off on power and manurerability, hence attacking off center with fakes and keeping a in a short stance with my weight on my toes would seem to be logical approach to getting in.. This to me is not thinking a head and commiting myself to a particular thought/ strategy but rather choosing strategic approach.. just a thought Stone From: "William Upton-Knittle" > \ > \ >Besides, I would recommend Chess to any martial artist.
