I think you will gain more by it by signing up for a martial arts class. If you r making mistakes you will have a instructor there to correct you. I am not saying this so u spend money. I am saying you will be getting more in the long run for your money by doing this. Donna - -- NO!! My cycle doesn't leak! Let's work on making this list the best ever everyone. Alain. Any news on when for sure your video is coming out? I'd like to place my order. Donna - -- NO!! My cycle doesn't leak! I was just wondering if it is possible to learn the martial arts from video tapes. Thanx, Kadin >> Kadin, Since my first video on Hapkido comes out in a month, and I'm working on a new two video set on self-defense, I hope people can learn something from them. However, the learning you can do is limited. Videos can never replace instruction from a qualified instructor. It also depends on what you want to learn. There is a lot more to learn than a video, or even a set of videos can teach. Now, if all you want to learn is some basic self-defense moves, you can pick up some basics from a video. That's the idea for my next video set, it is for the person who does not want to learn a martial art, but rather some techniques and skills to help defend him/her self. But if you want to learn a martial art, and everything that goes with it, you need to find a school and a good instructor. Now, once you have a good foundation, you can then learn more from a video, because you already know what is going on. Then you can get videos to supplement your training. I recently got some Sambo videos to learn more about what Sambo was, since there are not Sambo instructors around here. since I already have a background in self-defense, fighting, and some martial arts, it is easy for me to understand what is going on, and apply the things in my training, That brings the next step. You can not just watch the video. You have to actually get out on the mat and practice the things that are being shown. See how they work, and why they work. Get the feel for it, etc. I honestly think that if you really practice the techniques on my Hapkido video with a partner, and practice a lot, you will be able to learn the techniques I show on the video. Will you know Hapkido? No. You will know some of the principles and techniques that are taught in Hapkido, but there is so much more to Hapkido. I still have a lot to learn. But the things in my video are techniques that I think can be used in real self-defense situations if you find your self in one. But only if you have practiced with a partner, and practiced a lot. But again, videos are a limited tool Nothing beats going to a good school and learning from an actual instructor. Hope this helps a bit. Originally there were only warriors arts (running, fencing, javelin throwing, horse riding, wrestling, boxing) in the olympics. Things like skating, basketball, etc are the johnny-come-late events that were added later.
