Are you listed? The Yellow Pages is a list of schools made up from the people on various martial arts related lists. The idea of the list is to inform people where they might find a school that they can train at while visiting or moving into a new area. This covers all styles of martial arts. This is an international listing. You can view the Yellow Pages is via the web site: www.k2nesoft.com/~apreston/Yellow.Pages.html If you have sent me mail with your information and you do not see it on the list, please re-send it since I may have lost it...:) I would suggest that everyone look up their listing information and make sure it is current and correct correct. If your school is not there, fill out the form in the page and it will be added. The list is international and covers all sorts of arts. If you send me a form, it will be added to the list in a day or two. If you do not see it, then resend it after a couple of days. Please use the form on the web page since I have the updates semi-automated with the form. One additional note, if you have your own web page for your school, you can added an html link to it in the additional information and it will allow people to automatically see a link to your site. - -- - -- Tony Preston, Team *AMIGA*, Linux developer since 1996 - -- Custom Services, P. I have heard that hapkido is a good self defense art, but then I read that you can't really do hapkido on a person that doesn't let you do it. One friend of mine said to learn to box if I wanted to learn to fight. I'm just trying to figure out what the best thing to train in should be. thanks>> Who are you planning to fight? Yes, tkd is a sport, boxing is a sport, and bullseye shooting is a sport as well. All have combat applications. Go and check out the schools near you and find what fits your schedule and life style. If all you want to do is learn to fight, go and rob a store a knife-point, get arrested, and go to prison. Prison is the best place I can think of to really learn to fight well. Hope this helps, Jon David Payne ------------------------------ From: ABurrese@aol.com Date: Sat, 9 Oct 1999 20:25:32 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Fire Article It's not martial arts, but my newest article is in the November issue of American Survival Guide. It's called "Quest for Fire" on page 92. The magazine is on the stands now. They have a chokes and sleeper holds article of mine too, that they say they plan on publishing, but they don't know when yet. For those of you who see it, let me know what you think. I guess I've >never carried a purse, so I've never thought much about someone snatching >one from me. > >But jokes aside, someone mentioned carrying the strap around and across the >body. I recommended that to a student only to find out that more harm seems >to happen that way. I even heard stories of people riding by on motorbikes, >dragging people on the ground just because their purse straps were across >their body. Not many defenses you can think about there. Just give the guy your purse. You can replace your credit cards. And don't keep anything in it with your address... Wasn't the "three strikes, you're out" legislation introduced by a congressman whose daughter was killed by a mugger? Apparently, he said, "gimme your purse", she said "no", so he put a gun to hear head and shot her.... In a self-defense class (taught by an ex-military thai boxer) I was taught that if you carry your bag on one shoulder, and someone grabs it, just run. IMHO 400m sprint training is the most effective self-defense sport. Seriously.
