Remember, any technique that is not taught is a technique that is not passed down through history, and is in jeopardy of being lost.>> It's good to remember that Combat Hapkido is mainly practiced by martial artist that have at least one dan ranking in another art. It might be consider a whole system by most people, but I find it compliments my Taekwondo, Tukong Moosul, and Kajukembo backgrounds very well. Combat Hapkido is always looking at new techniques or new ways of applying old ones. I'd also like to point out, while there might be fewer techniques, I'd rather know five techniques extremely well than touched on five thousand. I would like to thank the people out there like Mr. Mike Rowe who keep Combat Hapkido on the forefront without making any outrageous claims. Combat Hapkido has incorporated the basics of BJJ for fighting from the ground (although we don't believe this is a good place to be), also the trapping of JKD foundations has been incorporated as well. Overall Combat Hapkido is a practicle system of defense. Michael Rowe ***** Intersting to hear how its direction has changed. I wrote the first article in English on Hapkido when the first master came to the States to teach. Spent three weeks in intensive study....and said it appeared little more than a combination of TKD and Aikido......I used to laugh when I would go to tournaments and hear myself quoted. Actually adding the grappling was not a bad idea. Do they still include the standing and on-the-run stone throwing? b ------------------------------ From: NorwichIMA@aol.com Date: Mon, 11 Oct 1999 22:47:51 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Little Kid Karate Drills Hi Everyone, My husband and I run a school in CT and have decided to open a class specifically designed for 3-5 years old to prepare them for a traditional class. Does anyone have some fun suggestions for drills to teach the concepts of listening, balance, self control etc. Tang Soo Cherish ------------------------------ From: d g Date: Mon, 11 Oct 1999 21:31:16 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V6 #493 > I was wondering about Mr. Pellegrini's lineage as I've never read anything > about him. Some of the same things West teaches r in this book. He has some good chapters on Korean History in it too. Shaw's history I do not know. I too do not investigate some of these ppl as well as I should. Mike is right. I am not going to get into another long and get no-where thread with him about Pelligrini. He has good hapkido. But I still feel he skips some that might be important. Who knows. I wish I could skip some things I am taught. Like flying kicks. But, u never know where u might need it. Donna - -- NO!! It is weird how time, trends, and experiences fly by. Jeremy WJDKF/MACS Wow, the time does fly....in about six months I'll celebrate my 50th year in this wonderful, brutal, tender, oxymoronic world. And everyday I still look at everything in terms of how it was made or how it works and how I can develop a new technique from it. Here's to another 19, Jeremy. b ------------------------------ From: "John Groff" Date: Tue, 12 Oct 1999 03:07:31 -0700 Subject: the_dojang: running as self def. . . <<>> 400m hurdles couldn't hurt, either.
