(was:Tournament Promotions) <<>> I've had similar experiences to that myself, the most satisfying was when I attended a Goju-Ryu Karate class for a few weeks. On the 2nd or 3rd lesson we were allowed to spar and I got partnered with one of the 1st Kyu's who kept trying to flick my ear with continual backfists. After sucessfully avoiding most of these I thought it was time to go up a notch and watched the shocked look on his face when my roundhouse connected with his jaw - not too hard, just enough for him to feel! After that was out of the way we both had a great sparring session. When I started TKD I remember encountering a similar scenario with some senior grades but that time around I played on it. I did a few fake wobbly or slow kicks to lure them in - and then, POW. Never underestimate anyone simply because of the belt they wear. Yes, this is true. Which is why the quality of the fighters tends to be very high. > B. to say they fight cautiously? Body hit after body hit to > kicking the legs over and over is cautious? I don't think so. Not > at all. Well, yes... "cautiously" in that they are _very_ careful about opening up their bodies and heads to techniques _that would really do damage_. They toughen their legs a _lot_ in order to take the pounding. What I was trying to point out is that they usually pick their shots carefully, as opposed to a lot of fighters at other tournaments, who throw a lot of techniques in the hopes of getting a few to land. Does that make any sense? ;-) > I have alot of respect for those men ... As opposed to WTF schools, which tend to advertise "Yes, >you too can be an Olympic competitor". Exactly. While I believe that martial arts can obviously make one a good fighter there's only one "ancient chinese secret" that I've come across. Long, hard training - after awhile one even begins to like it :). Even the guys I know who practice chi kung as a part of their Kung Fu training don't stop sparring or partner drills. It's a supplement not a replacement. >> >It is _very_ good... _for those who are ready for it_.
