But it raises a question: With her training and family background, why did she allow herself to be 'lured' into danger? Or could it be that having a BB rank gave a false sense of security ? ( something that can happen to ALL of us ) Kerry WTF TKD "Allow herself to be 'lured' into danger"? I didn't read it that way. The way I see it, you can go through life expecting the worst from people or you can go through expecting the best. It seems to me that the cousin's girlfriend was merely being a Good Samaritan (I would have probably done the same thing in the circumstances). Fortunately, when it turned out that help was not what the man wanted, she had the skills and reacted properly to get out of the situation. The psychological reaction is natural, especially if an optimistic view of mankind has not been tempered in any fashion. This does not mean you stop being a Good Samaritan, you just learn to be more "situationally aware." I've just been informed by list member Master Steven Silz (tkdscribe@aol.com) that he is a candidate for the USTU VP position mentioned below (and previously mentioned in digest issue v06.n512). The electorate is the Board of Governors (BOG). The BOG is composed of the 50 State Presidents, the 4 Armed Forces representatives, a number of athlete representatives, and some states may have extra voting delegates as determined by the number of USTU members registered within that state. Please lend him all the support that you can. He'd clearly make a great VP for the USTU. Ray Terry - -------------------------------------------------------- To: USTU Board of Governors and Club Presidents From: Secretary General Soon Ho Kim Re: Replacement Election for Vice President As you my know, our Union currently has a vacancy amongst our officers; we are short one vice-president. Due to the intensity of the upcoming Olympic year, it is vital to our Union that we have a full compliment of officers serving our membership. In accordance with our recently amended bylaws, any USTU Member in good standing is eligible to be nominated, and, subsequently elected, by our Board of Governors. The USTU's Nomination and Election Committee has recommended a replacement election to fill this position at our upcoming annual meeting in Las Vegas. The newly elected VP shall serve for the remainder of the current administration's term - a period of about one year. NOTICE: Any individual seeking election for this position must submit a letter of intent by certified mail to the office of our Executive Director prior to October 25, 1999. The eligibility of those nominated will then be reviewed by our Nomination and Election Committee. Eligible candidates will then be publicized to the known members of our BOG by November 5, 1999 by fax or mail. Please share this information freely with any interested party. I look forward to seeing you all once again in Las Vegas. ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999 15:06:42 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: Former National TKD Team members (USTU) As part of the history project that the USTU is working on, they are attempting to locate ALL of the former National Team members that they have lost contact with. If you know any former team members, please relate this to them and ask them to contact the USTU with their up-to-date contact information (mail/phone/email). Thanks. Almost the whole school tested and we all passed (various levels from gold to brown). I am now wearing a red belt. The night before, I got to sleep no problem. Wednesday morning the butterflies started up again (there was a thread about butterflies here the last time I tested several months ago). This time they were giant mutant butterflies trying to claw their way out of my stomach. Intellectually I knew I was ready for the test. But my stomach hadn't figured it out yet. Then as soon as I got to the dojang and started warming up, poof, they melted away to nothing. Everything just flowed. Nailed my forms. Looked sharp during sparring. Broke two boards with a spin back kick on the first shot. I am still pumped but my throat is shot from my enthusiastic giyups. Next target, brown belt.
