Ray Terry, PO Box 110841, Campbell, CA 95011 KMA@MartialArtsResource.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: WojoSG@aol.com Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999 21:22:19 EDT Subject: the_dojang: Re: Tournaments and Taeguks Michele, I haven't been to too many tournaments, but the ones I have attended have been judged by a wide assortment of Black belts from all different backgrounds. In these cases, many of the judges may not be familiar with the Taeguk forms since they do not practice TKD. My instructor told me not to worry as much about getting the form exactly right, but to concentrate on power, precision, stances and technique. Be purposeful and strong when addressing the judges but show them the proper courtesies. I liked what you said about just being happy to attend. That attitude will also help you in competition. There is always something to be learned. If you are not learning anymore, you are either stupid or dead. If you have a chance to compete, do it. You are winner just for showing up, even if you don't take home a trophy. Ray Terry rterry@best.com - ------------------------------------------------------------------ CALL FOR PAPERS ACTA KOREANA Acta Koreana invites the international scholarly community to participate in discussions, based on broad empirical and theoretical cognition, and on diverse interdisciplinary and intercultural topics for its 3rd issue to be published by Academia Koreana of Keimyung University in the summer of 2000. Acta Koreana seeks to encourage new discourses on thought, language, and culture; book reviews and commentaries with regard to all aspects of issues pertaining to Korea. It is thus hoped our journal will promote a better understanding of the increasingly crucial role which Korean studies plays in the postmodern global arena. From the 2nd issue, the journal expanded its coverage to include the field of Literature in Translation. Contributors are therefore especially encouraged to submit new translations of literary works of all types, as well as papers on literary criticism. Manuscripts should be typed double-spaced, and contributors are requested to send a manuscript and a diskette formatted ideally for IBM, or transmitted through e-mail: pipkim@earthlink.net or tskim@hiu.edu. The editors will consider manuscripts of no more than 40 pages and book reviews of no more than four pages in length. The submission deadline for the forthcoming edition is March 15, 2000. Book reviews accepted for publication will also appear in the Korean Studies Review at the site. EDTORIAL BOARD Yong-ho Choe, John Duncan, Robert Fouser, Bruce Fulton, John I. Did you ever think to refuse the belt being given by your instructor? - - Lady Black ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Fri, 22 Oct 1999 07:43:03 -0700 (PDT) Subject: the_dojang: . ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V6 #521 ******************************** Support the USTU by joining today!
