On the 5th of June, based on my activity on this list, Glenn from the tkdnet-digest invited me to participate on their list. I thought of this as a win-win situation and decided I wanted to participate in this list as well. On the 19th of November I was removed from the tkdnet-list since they discovered that I had posted to the Dojang Digest also. An unannounced policy that had been introduced after I joined. After receiving an apology from the administrators of tkdnet-digest for how this was handled, I have accepted their apology, but have decided to move on to open lists. I realize that both the tkdnet and the dojang digests are private property, but with its degree of public attendance, I feel it to be relevant to address the issue of cooperation. openness and censorship. I don't want the lists I participate in to restrict me in any way as long as my posts are not too far off topic or in any way unlawful, overly hostile to other members or very impolite in general. To restrict my meanings or which other forums I participate in is unacceptable to me. I now know the policy of the tkdnet-digest. What is the policy of the dojang digest ? Glenn of the tkdnet-digest informed me "cheerfully" that they had succeeded in putting the dojang digest to rest. And it seems obvious to me that he might be right, considering the unfortunately low activity here. I don't like that kind of attitute - and it has very little to do with the values and system of honour and respect that most tkd-practitioners are taught. To everybody who is still a member of both lists but don't post on the dojang digest due to fear from getting kicked out of the tkdnet-digest, I appeal to you to start a debate to change this rather childish attitude of the moderators of the tkdnet-list. In my opinion, both lists are great but with a different angle. I think the moderators of both lists do a great job. The world of TKD is so big that two lists should consider cooperation rather than competition. There is room for much more than one list out there. Openness and communication is the way to go - not hostility! It can be an ugly thing to say something about one list on another list. For this matter, I have CC'ed this message to the moderators of the tkdnet as well. What is the policy of the > dojang digest ? And you're hearing all this during the Christmas season? :( You are correct in that members or administrators of an email distribution list should not be afraid of, or concerned with in ANY way, what other lists or forums you participate in. Last I checked most of us lived in free societies. The following/attached are our only 'rules'. They are automatically sent to all as they subscribe to the list. We are open to all and all are welcome here. No secrets. No 'special' people getting special treatment. All are treated with respect and we expect respect from all members. Another way to think of it is we expect you to 'behave as your mama taught you to'. Note that in the past 5.5 years only three people have had to be removed from this list due to their inability to behave properly and treat others with respect. You can probably guess who one of those three was... I realize that a few (many?) of you have received direct email from this person indicating that I, Ray Terry, have attempted (succeeded?) in disrupting his list in the past. This claim is nothing but a LIE! I have never even been a member of Glenn's list/forum under my real name or under a fake name or in any way/shape/form. Several people have even been sent 'evidence' that I am also Mike Roberts (Hi Mike), who is subscribed to this list. Sad... Yet it does bother me GREATLY that men, women, and children have apparently been harassed and threatened simply because they post to this list. So sad... Believe me, I have plenty to do with my work, my training, my friends and family, -and- running three different lists to take even time to read other email lists, much less try to sabotage them. THE THOUGHT IS JUST SILLY... I'm sure that (almost) any of us that make the time to administer a list/forum only wish the best to our sister/brother list admins. Now, please do not take this as open posting season on you-know-what-net-list. Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- [snip] Q: What type of messages belong on this distribution list (in priority order)? A: For The_Dojang list: - Korean martial arts - Korean martial sports - Korean MA history - Asian martial arts - Martial arts - Seminar/tourny announcements - Korean culture [snip] Q: What is netiquette? A: Netiquette is behaving with proper etiquette, behaving like your mama taught you to. It is easy in this e-mail environment to trash other people since you don't have to look them in the eye. Those not behaving with proper "netiquette" will be removed without hesitation. Note: The list administer reserves the right to remove any member at any time for any reason. and This list is for the discussion of Korean martial arts. As the_dojang-digest list is a voluntary service provided in my spare time, I reserve the right to remove anyone from the list at any time, for any reason. Note that it usually takes malice, major brain failure, or persistent unresolved mail problems to provoke me to do so.
