Ray Terry, PO Box 110841, Campbell, CA 95011 KMA@MartialArtsResource.com ---------------------------------------------------------------------- From: ChunjiDo@aol.com Date: Sat, 1 Jan 2000 16:49:37 EST Subject: the_dojang: alain's hapkido hoshinsul i just watched alain burrese's hapkido hoshinsul video. i made everyone sit down and watch it with me and found, to my surprise, that they loved it too :). first, i liked seeing alain in action. it's different than just conversing via e-mail and list postings or seeing pictures of him on a webpage. he's quite talented and btw, yi-saeng is a lucky woman ;). i am first and foremost a wtf taekwondo stylist with a rank of first dan kukkiwon. just a pup in the grand scheme of things. i have also had _a little_ hapkido training in the very basic wrist grab escapes and control techniques. those who viewed the tape with me have had very little experience in the martial arts. one has had none. the other has received just a little bit of training from me in taekwondo and a very few hapkido hoshinsul escapes to promote her ability to defend herself in an attack. with that said, these two enjoyed the tape nearly as much as i did. they both wanted to try practical applications of the techniques afterward. alain's video was well organized, broken down, and illustrated. it's easy for the beginner to pick up the concepts immediately. it's also a great refresher for someone like myself who has not been practicing these techniques on a regular basis. alain and his training partners worked well together to show the basic concepts and movements of the techniques. then they picked up the pace gradually to a full speed application of each technique. at no time did i feel that there was too much of a repetition or redundancy. the applications were geared for street effectiveness, which is prime information for any individual. every technique could be applied in various ways and alain did an excellent job of making that clear to the viewer. he illustrated these adaptations effectively without varying from the basic idea or confusing the audience. alain showed escapes, holds, come-along techniques, throws and follow-ups and all with a responsibility to the audience to show proper technique while espousing control of force. this is a vital attitude in today's litigation happy society. alain burrese is a very talented, intelligent, and thoughtful martial artist and it shows in this video. way to go, alain. melinda ------------------------------ From: TKDSCRIBE@aol.com Date: Sat, 1 Jan 2000 18:21:35 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V7 #1 Dear Readers, Happy New Year to all whom digest the Dojang Digest.
