I beleive they'll make books for each Dan rank at least through 5th degree, probably higher. These are *VERY* good. I highly recommend them. W.R.T. videos, ATA has them available for Pro-Tech systems (which includes weapons, specialty training, etc). There are separate videos for students and instructors, and some have multiple levels. Videos are also available for the first 7 (I think) of the 9 colored belt ranks. Eventually, these will be caught up through the black belt ranks. I've only seen a couple of these as I'm waiting to order the complete set at once at (hopefully) a discount price. The best part is the outtakes shown at the end of the videos - very funny. These are good references for students, but don't seem to be as instructional in nature as the Pro-tech videos or the books. These videos basically present the new techniques, form, one-steps, etc. from various angles. >A couple of folks just mentioned that the ATA has videos covering their gup >level requirements. How about the Pro-Tech (did I get that right?) areas? >Are they also covered in video format? Just curious... ------------------------------ From: "Vaught, Clifford (CLF N6Y2K8)" Date: Wed, 5 Jan 2000 13:05:03 -0500 Subject: the_dojang: RE: The_Dojang-Digest V7 #7 This is a new(?) question. I may have missed the discussion due to Christmas travels. I recently purchased TKD Times with Gen Choi on the cover (JAN 2000). I was interested in feedback on the article, i.e., how accurate is it? The reason I pose the question that way is due to a reference to Grandmaster Hwang Kee on page 51 as being "appointed as the chairman of the Board of Governors [of the Korean TKD Association]". Having read GM Hwang Kee's History of the Moo Duk Kwan, and being a Soo Bahk Do MDK practitioner, that statement runs contrary to everything I've been taught and read concerning his relationship to Gen Choi and TKD. Given that apparent inaccuracy, I was curious about the rest. Soo Bahk!! Each of us on this list, Emily's fellow martial arts practitioners, are also part of her larger 'family.' Jesse David wrote: > All of us were surprised at how much Emily's death had affected us. Each of us felt like a piece of us had been taken away. Through discussion it became clear that the Dojang was a family in our hearts, if not in our minds. Through the trust required to receive and give instruction and perform life threatening techniques with fellow students (and for other reasons that weren't entirely clear to us), we had let Emily, and each other, into our hearts. Emily's death taught us that we are a family, and the value of that family. < ------------------------------ From: d g Date: Wed, 05 Jan 2000 13:17:30 -0800 Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V7 #7 > From: TaoArt@aol.com > Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2000 22:25:35 EST > Subject: the_dojang: Trust > > Donna, > > Have you considered changing the type of people you hang with? > > I've been with the precarious sorts earlier in life. Then I found out what > it was like to have true friends... the kind that put blood relatives to > shame because they would stand there at your side and face death himself if > he walked through the door looking for you. > U'd said it right there. Blood relatives sometimes are the worst. I too can count true friends on one hand. The places I hang in are not the safest, but even church nowdays is not safe or a do-chang if someone wants to come in and start blasting away. I have true friends and then I have ppl who I just talk to but I know will not watch out for me. I watch out for all who are with me because that is the way I want to be treated. As far as ppl, even a do-chang is not safe. The ppl who are there, teach. What the person is, is something else. Trust is something that has to be earned. I've heard of instructors/students who have attacked and hurt/killed ppl or sexually harrased them since I've started the martial arts. Granted, not all are like that but they sure give the martial arts a bad name when this happens. I am not going to give up my hangouts just because there are a few ppl who cannot be trusted. You just have to know, be aware, and for gods sake!! Listen to your friends when someone tells you so and so is a jerk!! I learned that one not too long ago. Donna ------------------------------ From: d g Date: Wed, 05 Jan 2000 13:44:09 -0800 Subject: the_dojang: commitment David, First, I am sorry about your friend. Second, a question came up in my mind when you said the instructors were regretful they did not commit more time to her. When do all of you as instructors feel the commitment should be made? Commitment to me means teaching these students as if they are going to be with us for life no matter what. We put our lives into your hands to teach us how to save ours. I am looking to make available curriculum tapes for each belt level that students may use as a supplement for better understanding for testing and technical knowledge. However, I am always improving, or trying to improve, the current curriculum whenever I receive updates from my instructors. If anyone has them for their school, even home video-style, contact me for ideas on how to go about this. Thank you. A.
