A-KaTO (American Karate and TaeKwon Do Organization) has 2 videos and 2 books available to all students, these are also sold commercially by various parties. The first video covers history of TKD in America and the required forms thru 1st dan. These are the ChangHon patterns without the sine wave.the second tape, covers the black belt patterns and 3 TangSoDo patterns that were kept in the curriculum when the forms were changed to the ChangHon Patterns. Also on the second tape is the Aiki-Ju-Jutsu required at the black belt level. The other items on tape 2 are 5 weapons forms, one each for Bo, Jo, Sai, Nunchuku and Bokken. The first book is a beginners book, covers the basics (kicks, blocks, stances, how to tie the belt, and the patterns thru 4th gup blue belt). The second book is the book of forms (all ChangHon patterns thru 1st dan). We kindly refer to this book as the BIG RED book. There are two level of videos for most of the ProTech topics, one for student review and one for instructors which contains drills, advanced topics, etc. I find them to be very useful, 'cause my memory ain't quite what it used to be ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Wed, 05 Jan 2000 21:47:56 PST Subject: the_dojang: Call for Papers Forwarding. Ray ========================================================== Call for Papers "Narratives of Identity" Proposed Theme Issue for The Review of Korean Studies Recent studies of identity have crossed a number of disciplines to address such issues as the multiple intersections of class, gender and race as well as the interrelations of postcolonialism, nationalism and ethnicity. These works have called into question the "politics of identity" by expanding anti-essentialist critiques of ethnic, sexual, national and racial identities as predetermined "givens." By exploring how identities are constructed, these works have provided provocative insights for the articulation and discussion of new theories and discourses of identity. We propose a theme issue of "The Review of Korean Studies" that would encourage scholars from a wide range of disciplines to address the question of identity from a variety of historical, contemporary and/or diasporic situations in Korea. Our particular interest is to explore how identities are produced, negotiated and reformulated during periods of historical and cultural upheaval, where transnational flows and external challenges create the conditions where identities (national, class, ethnic, and/or gendered) are threatened, debated or simply re-created. Proposed topics might include, but are not limited to: the exploration of "Koreaness" in the discourse of imperial Japan, evangelical imperialism and the emergence of a new coding of femininity in early modern Korea, ethnic identity among Korean diaspora communities, or the invention of "tradition" (religious, artistic, political) in either pre-modern or modern times.
