Ray ===================================================================== ... allow me to promote a list that was started a few months back. The name of the list is the Martial Science and Arts. I have not been posting much in the past months as I spent all my free time getting ready for my black belt test. I am glad to say that the hard work has paid off and I am a 1st dan of TKD. In the month since I have tested I have started over anew. There is so much more to learn. I don't know who first said it, but one of my favorite saying about becoming a black belt is > > "In the world of martial arts, black belt does not mean you mastered anyhting, but you have the foundation. Think of it as knowing your alphabet, but not being able to read yet." Unknown. How true. I like to tell folks it's like graduating from high school - now it's time to really start learning. Unfortunately, too many kids are being graduated from high school that can't read..... ------------------------------ From: Cecil Washington Date: Tue, 18 Jan 2000 16:41:02 -0800 (PST) Subject: the_dojang: Re: The_Dojang-Digest V7 #29 Dear Ray from Raymail: I'd suggest going back and getting a black belt in something, then opening up a dojo. Odds are your previous experience will help, plus learning a classical style may help you smooth out any rough spots. In addition, when going for a black belt you get some time in teaching and can use it to see how someone runs a dojo. If you do go back, I'd highly suggest something classical/traditional, since you already have that "hands on" experience. Literally. You style does sound interesting though. Is it a grappling type deal, or striking or a mix of both? Cecil __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! If I live in Montana and I called up a Do-jang and say Tae KwonDo instead of Tie KwonDo would they even know what I was talking about? Because in my whole intire life of calling up dojangs and taking to different people they as well as I have always called "Tae" Tie and "Dan" Dan, yes with the american "A" sound. I have never in my life heard it pronounced the way all of you just said they were ment to be pronounced. That is amazing to me that people cringe when they hear the Tae pronounced Tie because all of the places I have been it has always been pronounced Tie. I guess I learn something new every day. ;) - --Kadin-- ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ From: ABurrese@aol.com Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2000 00:10:14 EST Subject: the_dojang: congrats!
