I don't need to tell you about the high regard my teacher Master Hal Whalen has for you, as well as all those in our dojang who've had the pleasure of meeting and working out with you. I look forward to learning lots more about my art from you and all the others contributing to this list. Thanks again. Jesse J. R. Ok, so let me get this straight. You can actually be friends with other list members and owners without insulting, degrading or booting them off your list? I don't know, sounds like a conspiracy to me. 8?) It's very similar to the movie 'Hapkido' made, I believe, the year before. Except in 'Hapkido' the great master who supports the Koreans against the Japanese is played by Hapkido GM Ji HanJae, and he's only in it for an all-too brief ten minutes or so. He does an *extremely* short Hapkido demo against his students that lasts maybe two or three minutes. He does this unbelievable spinning hook kick where he catches his opponent's punching arm in the 'crook' of his leg, and continues spinning all the way to the ground to a takedown. One of those things where you say 'what was that??!!' Both movies feature Angela Mao, Carter Wong and Whang InShik. Whang plays a good guy in 'Hapkido' (he comes to the aid of Mao and Wong in the finale against a large group of bad guys) and in 'Taekwondo' he's of course one of the main bad guys. Oh, and Sammo Hung (of 'Martial Law' and innumerable HongKong movies fame) is also a good guy in 'Hapkido' and a bad guy in 'Taekwondo.' IMHO, I think it's obvious (especially now in the 'Martial Law' TV series) that Sammo Hung has had substantial Hapkido training. Not so Angela Mao or Carter Wong. Sure, they're both excellent kickers but they both look much more 'Kung Fu' to me than Hapkido. Any other opinions? Jesse Ray wrote: > Has anyone seen the classic film (?) 'When Taekwondo Strikes'? It stars Master Jhoon Rhee and (if I remember correctly) about the Japanese occupation of Korea. I FORCED myself to stay awake until 1:00 AM to catch it once when I was in high school. It was the first time I had ever seen "Taekwon-Do" in the title of a martial arts film and just had to watch since I had been training for a little over a year. I still remember the opening sequence consisted of Master Rhee performing one of the Chang Hon tuls, but I cannot remember which one. He is not specifically the greatest martial artist of all time, but his films are very innovative in fight choreography. As a child, he was primarily trained in acrobatics and Cantonese Opera. Specifically-what do you think of the technique? Are movie MA's highly regarded? My winning bid was $11. Just wanted it to add to the ole library. Should arrive in a week or two. Now if I could just score a copy of GM Ji's movie, Hapkido. Wasn't it also released under the title Lady KungFu?
