An excellent and easy read. Once I started I couldn't put it down. Loriega states, "The traditional sjambok (pronounced SHAM-bok) is a semi-rigid flail believed to have originated in the southern part of the (african) continent. The sjambok is not a whip in the conventional sense and some specimens resemble a think, flexible rod. The fact that it is constructed from think-textured hides, as opposed to supple leather, is the primary characteristic that makes the sjambok so uniquely different from the sinuous whip." I had picked up a sjambok from Cold Steel / Special Projects some time ago as it looked like an interesting flexible weapon with which to experiment. I wish I had picked up Loriega's book at the same time as it would have made the learning the weapon much easier. The book goes through the weapon itself, combat methodologies, and ideas for drills and practice to master the weapon. Yes, this weapon has a history that cause many to hate it, but then it is only a weapon and they have no control over the men that use them. The sjambok was frequently used in the country of South Africa 15/20 years ago for 'riot control'. If you're interested in flexible weapons check out the sjambok and check out Loriega's book. Hey, Doing pushups off your feet would not damage your womb. How would it do that, since the pressure is mostly on your arms? The main problem is that most women don't have the amount of strength necessary, at least at first. I myself (also a 9th gup), always can do about twelve pushups off my feet before I have to switch to my knees for the remainder. I used to be unable to do _any_ off my feet. To increase your strength, just try and do a few pushups off your feet first. If you're anything like me, your arms will be quivering and feeling about dead as you push up. :) Rest, then do some off your knees until your arms start to quiver again. Remember - no pain, no gain. :) - -Sarah Pride- ------------------------------ From: "Anthony or Clare Boyd" Date: Thu, 27 Jan 2000 03:11:58 +0900 Subject: the_dojang: Webpage Update: Is that a sword? With the arrival of digital video in my house over the weekend I can now add pictures and video to my website. Not being too lazy I have done so. So far the quality of my photography leaves something to be desired (namely the quality part) but the spirit is willing. With luck I will be able to corral a camera person to come with me in the frigid winter mornings.... Ok, with a lot of luck. Anyway, the videos are in MPEG-4 ASF (advanced streaming format) and as far as I can determine require Windows Media Player (version 6 or better) to be viewed. Comments are welcome and any help would be appreciated. Thanks to those of you who visited the original version of my site, I hope this can be a bit of a reward for your effort.
