Dear DD, We are designing a teeshirt for our club (UK Soo Bahk Do) and are having trouble with the lettering. We can't seem to get a good copy of the Chinese characters for Moo Duk Kwan in 'blocky' type print - not cursive script. The characters we want appear quite clearly on the old edition of MDK Vol. 2 (the one with the higher forms in). Unfortunatley, the only person I know who has this book has lost it (the new edition has cursive characters). I would therefore be very grateful if anyone who has a copy of the old edition of this book would be willing and kind enough to scan the characters from its cover and mail them to me. Alternatively, if anyone could send another source then that would be equally as well received. Soo Bahk! Paul. Email: K.P.Beckett@sussex.ac.uk ------------------------------ From: "J. R. The Warrior Healer, A Martial Arts Herbal form Power, Fitness, and Focus, by Thomas Richard Joiner. This book is more of a reference book. One to skim through to see what is in it and then file away for the time you're interested in making or buying a specific herbal remedy to help with any number of things. Joiner makes the point that traditional 'healer' training is missing in much of today's martial arts education. Joiner goes into a little history and then jumps into herbal preparations for: Injury Management (stopping bleeding, massage oils, etc), Training Formulas (hand conditioning, increased stamina, etc), Herbs for Sexual Conservation (you figure it out :), Herbs to assist in meditation, and several appendices with one that cross-indexes Chinese herbal names to scientific names and to English names. Short on reading, but good for those that think they might be interested in making various herbal teas, wines, pills, and oils. Healing Arts Press -1999, ISBN 0-89281-796-8. Lists for $14.95. There are many JKDers over on the eskrima-digest list, but you might also check www.jkd.com (and other JKD websites) for pointers to info/books/videos. > We can't seem to get a good copy > of the Chinese characters for Moo Duk Kwan in 'blocky' type print - > not cursive script. > > The characters we want appear quite clearly on the old edition of > MDK Vol. 2 (the one with the higher forms in). You might check the various Tang Soo Do websites or Soo Bahk Doo sites like www.soobahkdo.com and www.soobahkdo.org.
