Ok Ray, I'll come out of the woodwork. My name's John Wallace; I've re-entered the MA world with Martial Arts America (Sabumnim Grant Tabuchi) in Fremont, CA. My dojang focusses primarily on TKD, but the reason I picked it over other TKD schools in the area is that we also offer Danzan Ryu jujitsu, in which I'm a 10th kyu (hence my earlier silence on the topic) I'm presently 5th gup TKD. I initially came into TKD under Master Yu, Byong Hong in Concord in the mid '80s. On re-entering martial arts, I was initally going to find a jujitsu dojo and train in that alone..I wanted to improve my ground-fighting and gain a repertoire of joint locks, submissions and grappling techniques. I'm happy Mr Tabuchi convinced me to try his approach of combining TKD, jujitsu and escrima though, as my wife is now also participating, and just successfully passed her 8th gup rank testing. Unfortunately I ripped up my left shoulder a month ago, which prevented me from testing recently. I definitely like grappling. I was always dissatisfied with the objective of "standard" wrestling..pinning your opponent's shoulders to the mat. Learning submission holds, immobilizations, pressure points, throws & so on...>>thats<< a way to finish a . I like the way learning these things expands the options available in a confrontation. It seems that the moment you start throwing punches & kicks, the violence has to escalate exponentially. If you have some locks, come-alongs & so on, you have other ways to defuse a confrontation. - -JW ------------------------------ From: Kim Jones Date: Sun, 30 Jan 2000 04:17:01 -0800 (PST) Subject: the_dojang: Happy Birthday in Hangul "Happy Birthday" in Hangul is: Saeng-il chookhamnida.
