The eagle in GM Ji's Sin Moo logo is brown in color. Is another color Eagle used by some HKD org? Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com ------------------------------ From: "J. R. HapKiDop Seminar I would like to remind everyone that we are 4 weeks away from the 12th International HapKiDo seminar, to be held in Jackson, MS on Feb. 25th - 27th. We will have instructors and participants from as far away as Sydney, Australia, and are expecting in the neighborhood of about 200 HapKiDo players and other stylists from all over the USA and abroad, that wish to add some HapKiDo to their existing curriculum. If anyone has any questions about this twice-yearly event, or wishes some information mailed to them, feel free to drop me a line. I'm sure that there are some folks on this list that have attended one of these seminars before, that can give their assessment of the festivities if asked. I have been very fortunate to meet many fine martial artists while conducting seminars around the country, and I can honestly say that this seminar will host some of the finest instructors and martial artists that I have ever met......J. I see a lot of those nowdays. When I was a kid I never seen one. Now that they are coming back, they are beautiful. It is wonderful to see those while I am fishing. I seen a Golden Eagle once too. The biggest I ever seen. It was just landing on a pine tree as I passed by. The wing span was awsome. FWIW. Up in Alaska they view the Golden Eagle as a rat with wings... :) Ray Terry raymail@hpwsrt.cup.hp.com ------------------------------ From: "tink" Date: Sun, 30 Jan 2000 16:16:10 -0600 Subject: the_dojang: Bill Wallace Experience My experience with Bill Wallace was nothing like Laura's, but I am not a woman. I went to one of his stretching seminars in 1986. Along with a lot of pain from muscles I didn't know I had as well as from those that were taking out their vengeance on me for putting them through things they had never done before, I don't remember much about his overall personality. I do remember him "Helping" me with a couple of stretches. He was very pleasant, humourous, and the center of attention. The one thing I remember most was making the mistake of asking him a question. When a Black Belt asks the Instructor a question about a technique, you can bet a demonstration will follow, with the Lowly Black Belt the victim...I mean the demonstration assistant. He had made the statement that if you throw a round house/ hook combination to an opponents head enough times in sequence without dropping your foot, the opponent will lean into the kick as the head moves back and forth with the kick. I asked about leaning back out of the way of the kick. He proceeded to demonstrate. He threw the kick as I leaned back out of reach, or so I thought. It's amazing how far a leg will stretch. I tried counting his kicks to keep in time. Somewhere around 13...at least I think it was 13, I leaned into his roundhouse with a jolting revelation. holding my jaw I nodded that I got the point of the technique. The whole event lasted nearly 5 seconds. Needless to say I was quite impressed...and quite sore! In support of Laura, I do remember him making some very "Inappropriate" comments regarding women. I seem to remember him making such a comment to one of his black belt assistants as he was autographing his book for me. I do not remember exactly what he said, as it was quite a few years ago, but I remember vividly making dissatisfied, almost disgusted, faces at some of his comments. I kept thinking 'This guy is one of the best and he talks like that? Guess that's what fame does to folks.' Laura, I am very sorry that you or any other female had to endure such comments and harassment, especially from one of the martial arts "greats". Maybe he is not so great after all. As martial artists we have the responsibility to promote good will and respect to all. Regardless of our rank or style, the martial arts are united in at least a couple of aspects: Courtesy and respect to seniors, fellow martial artists, and people of all ages in general. Be humble. The One and Only...
