I would hate to tell Ji Han-jae, Han Bong-soo, or Dr. He-young Kimm that their Dae-Han KiDoHwe certificates are invalid. Just because your particular organization does not recognize other promotions doesn't mean that these men are not respected 9th dans under another group, and such a statement only tends to polarize an already over-splintered group. The fact that Mr. Choi Yong-sul is considered by many as the "originator" of a system, has no bearing on who holds rank and what rank they hold now. It has been my experience that masters who claim that their way is the ONLY way are the ones that have the least to offer as far as actual training is concerned and are more concerned with their "position" and how others view them. I'm not saying that you should not be proud of who you are and who you train under, but I would never say anything that would exclude or deny anyone else's credentials or hard work that has THAT much more experience than I do. I have visited several different martial art schools in Indiana, and have not been very impressed with there styles, maybe because the Kong shin style is purely self defense. We are not allowed to enter any type of sport related tournaments.Several years ago Grand Master Pok took all the B.S. out and made it purely combative.Adding in stick ,pressure point, ground, and modern weapons training. All this, way before Combat Hapkido ever came out. I am not trying to put down any other styles or arts.I myself, have found one of the true Martial Ways not art Later, steve ------------------------------ From: CBAUGHN@aol.com Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 19:13:10 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: TKD Broadcasts Silke writes << For those of you who are interested in TKD broadcasts, I can let you know that there is an independent production house that is currently negotiating with ESPN and/or with Fox Sports to broadcast WTF tournaments and the Olympic Trials as a regular weekly series. >> Way to go!!!! I truly believe we would be as mainstream popular as gymnastics or figure skating if TKD could only be presented well on television. God knows if people are willing to pay to see bowling and other relatively unexciting sports, they would surely be willing to watch good TKD matches -- or even good poomse, for that matter. IMHO, the only reason people don't watch a sport is because they find it dull and uninteresting OR they don't understand it. Gymnastics and figure skating were like that only 8 years ago. Look at them now. Thanks for the info, Silke. I also am a dedicated Swordsman ( Guhapdo ). >> I'm curious as who you consider the other "true" 9th dan in Hapkido? I am not as knowledgeable on histories or lineage's of Hapkido, because it has not been as important to me. But it seems like Myung Kwang-sik is a 10 dan, Ji Han-jae is a 10th dan I believe, Han Bong-soo I thought was 9th or 10th as well. I also know Kimm He-Young has a 9th dan in hapkido. There are other Grand Masters who I have not named. (because I don't know them all, just some of these more popular ones) I don't remember if President of the KHF is an 8th, 9th or 10th. I know Kwanjangnim in Kangnung is a 7th dan, and Oh Se-Lim is higher than he is, so he must be 8th or higher, and I would think at least 9th. (never really bothered to ask, since it was not that important) just curious, Alain Burrese ------------------------------ From: Ray Terry Date: Tue, 8 Feb 2000 19:12:10 -0800 (PST) Subject: [none] ------------------------------ End of The_Dojang-Digest V7 #85 ******************************* It's a great day for Taekwondo!
