A question to the school owners out there: when a new student wishes to sign up, what are your procedures for taking them in? Do you perform an "interview"? In person, or maybe a written interview process? If so, what do you ask, and what are you looking for/looking out for? Do you just have them sign on the dotted line and ta-da!- instant student? Just a stray question that popped up in my head this week. I attended schools that had very different policies, anywhere from "sign here, and we'll begin warm-ups" to a 20 minute Q and A session with the instructor. What works for you? Mr. Beck, stated in part: Response: There is no way I would criticize statements made by Dr. Kimm. However, the comment made by Mr. Beck has merit. Teaching methods have dramatically changed. Similar to taking ski lessons where the good instructors help you visualize techniques with little cues, nuances, and then provide instant feedback. Personally, I would like to learn from the American Masters like Master West or Master Whalen who can impart the information to you in an understandable manner. I would become too frustrated trying to learn through osmosis only. Just me. McD... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! Just a heads-up to you fine folks. The attacks from 'our friend' on another list continue. Many of you have already been through this, but a few of you haven't, yet... There is a guy that runs another list and if you post on this list or other lists you will be removed from his list. ??? No one but he understands why, but that doesn't matter. In his mind you can only be active on one list, his. If you find this confusing, don't worry, so does everyone else. My humble advice is simply to post where ever you like. As far as I know we still live in free societies and NO one can tell us where we can or cannot openly and respectfully discuss martial arts.
