A discussion about an abhorrent TKD net policy has raised its ugly head again. Now the policy is etched in clear writing on the TKD net. I respectfully provide the following discussion on the honorable Ray Terry's list. I forward this based on my interactions with Ray. He is an above the board, honorable, and nice person. He has not been a flame thrower and is a respectful martial artist. He has a policy that you can post on his list or anyone else's list. If any individual on this Martial Science list is also posting to the TKD list and is tolerating this type of policy then I have deep sympathy for you. However, I respect your right to abide by an unconsionable policy on any list. How can any self-respecting individual tolerate a policy like that ? I wanted to forward this to readers here since I have had positive experiences with Mr. Ray Terry. I do not like outright lies and propaganda perpetuated by an individual who has a personal agenda. I request that you pass the word to fellow martial artists about this crazy activity by GU and the TKD net. Respectfully, McD... P.S. I do not own stock in the Dojang Digest and I am not related to Ray nor have any business relationship with him. I wish, ohh how I wish, we could do just that. I continue to encourage folks to be active on any and all MA lists and/or newsgroups. But unfortunately the following is what is being sent to many of our subscribers. So very sad that this has been occurring for about two years now... "Also, you should be aware that tkd net has a boycott on Dojang Digest, because of the inappropriate disrespectful behavior of the list owner, Ray Terry, and if you post there again, either from this address or XXXX@YYY.ZZZ, we will have to unsubscribe you from tkd net. Sorry, but that is the current policy." And, of course, past issues of the_dojang are freely available for online searching to those actively researching the KMAs for the wealth of info that you all contribute. For all of you who have trained in Korea as a color belt during the past five years, did you receive a (gub) certificate when you passed your belt tests. I took a couple of gub tests in Korea, but I was never issued a certificate. I'm just wondering if that's common practice in Korea. >> We were never given gup (gub) certificates at my school in Kangnung. However, there are new members to this list and Mr. Ray Terry's list. They should be occasionally informed in order to make reasoned choices. Believe me I do not want a long thread on the subject individual or TKD net. Nevertheless, the passing of factually correct information should be available to readers. For example. I am keenly aware of the personality of the stated individual on the TKD net. However, I was not aware that he has actually printed out a written policy that advises readers not to post to the Dojang Digest. The policy is then supplemented with false facts and outright fabrications. So, do I pass along relevant and truthful facts to uniformed readers who are not aware. Or do I merely turn the other cheek and let the scoundrel go unchallenged from a retort perspective. I choose to respond since I know part of the history and I am aware of the personality disorder by the subject individual on the TKD net. Now, if you recall the Chamberlain (sic) appeasement policy (re: England and WW II)we let Hitler take over Europe by not stopping him sooner. Similarly, the facts surrounding the GU issue should be promulgated and disseminated. Let intelligent readers then make their own choices amid the facts truthfully stated. The topic does relate to martial arts since these forums are for the sharing of information in an area many of us enjoy and love. Mr. Ray Terry was one of the original list maintainers. He supported you when you needed support, and he has helped me. I am merely returning a favor by pointing out important facts to readers. I believe the aberrant policy now stated and written on the TKD net, re: advising list members not to post to the Dojang Digest, has emerged since many prominent and high ranking martial artists have seen the light. They have started posting to the Dojang Digest. They realize that the Dojang Digest and the MartialScience lists consist of reasoned individuals and above the board list maintainers. This has apparently threatened an ego- centric individual who now places in writing an abhorrent policy (that we should not discuss ?). Having stated the above, readers can now absorb the facts, move on, comment, and at least be informed. I believe it is my responsibility to defend and support fine individuals who set a proper standard for martial artists and individuals to follow. This is why I voice my concern. Have a pleasant weekend. The McD Man __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! I have been "lucky" enough to be the primary contact for new members at our dojang for about two years, I always offer the person(young or old) to come to class free for a week(3 sessions). Special attention is paid to the new students on the first day, particularly in explaining terminology and correct body movement front kick. The second session I work to sure that any of the more complex beginners kick (Round, Side, and if the student is coordinated begin turning hook kick) techniques are understood (not that the form is perfect though) then the third session I back off a bit (if the student is progressing) and let him/her try to keep up with the rest of the class. They make the decision to stay or leave after the third session. I do not pressure people to join, I think that a MA student needs to find a school that is right for them. Our school is priced slightly higher than average but we have two WTF/Kukkiwon certified grandmasters at our school that teach and observe and take a few students to train in Korea once or twice a year.
