Yes I know Gae Baek Hyung...a straight line pattern with 4 45s at the starting point...It has some key focus points...the twin palm pushing technique (whatever it is called)..the T-Blocks as well...slight pause...it is a very powerful form with lots of power techniques requiring focus points...it can really be broken up into separate rhythms...if you wish to discuss it...email me at the following: tink73@earthlink.net hope you get it down...I took first out of 8 with it at tourney last year...I am now working on Chun Jang...even more rhythm challenging than Gae Baek...still haven't got it figured out flow wise yet...has about 4 separate rhythms to it....good luck...hope I helped. I got carried away with the last posting. Ken, my apologies to you. I'm not offended. I'm just a little tired of Korean masters who carry themselves with braggadocio and are not honest about the roots of their martial arts. I do not doubt there were some purely Korean arts and that a few may have survived until today. But there is very little historical evidence to back up many arts claim to be purely Korean in history, especially Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Kuk Sool. Besides, what's wrong with incorporating some practical techniques from other nations' martial arts? To me a Korean martial art, is a systematic self-defense curriculum and science that is developed by Koreans. Sometimes after I've found it, the attackers just come to me. Other times it's the opposite. I will visualize the attackers but end up needing the sheet music to make the form flow from attacker to attacker. This may not work for you, dunno. Hope it helps a little. :^) >> my master always used the "wave Theory" to explain it - think of form movement as a wave in the ocean - it starts about soft and slow and suddenly ends hard and fast on the beach ------------------------------ From: Oregfightingarts@aol.com Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 21:01:21 EST Subject: the_dojang: Selecting...Digest V7 #148 Ken, I would advise the prospective student/parent to watch the class before joining to see if the instructor puts the students first. If the instructor puts anything before a student, whether it be contractual obligations or simply a disinterest in teaching beginners, find a school/instructor who has better priorities. Students seek instruction. An entry level student/parent doesn't care how many stripes are on a belt, or how many affiliations a school has. They want to know if they will find what they seek...a teacher and a place to learn. More advanced students know specifically what they want, and what curriculum/certifications/affiliations etc to look for. I could ramble...but for brevity, Mark Gajdostik ------------------------------ From: WojoSG@aol.com Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 21:37:44 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: Brown Belt Test Congratulations to you, Donna! I also tested this weekend. I am now wearing a brown belt (2nd Gup TKD). I really feel like I earned this one. It took two and a half hours. The lower belts got to step out and watch occasionally, but we were on for the entire test. And then, suprise! Sabum threw in some grappling which we hadn't touched on for a year or so. That was in addition to all the USCDKA requirements. Today I am wall to wall bruises. But I feel great.
