Not easy for the 2nd Dans either, really. My point is, if you're struggling with it, join the club - just about every higher ranking black belt I know struggled with that one. ;-) ;-) > year...I am now working on Chun Jang...even more rhythm challenging > than Gae Baek...still haven't got it figured out flow wise > yet...has about 4 separate rhythms to it....good luck...hope I > helped. Choong Jang is also a tough one - used to be the toughest of the 2nd Dan patterns before they removed Ko-Dang and added Juche. Juche is very demanding _athletically_, but IMHO Choong Jang is more difficult from a technical and flow standpoint. It's a good pattern, though (well, ain't they all?) ;-) - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dave Steffen Wave after wave will flow with the tide Dept. of Physics And bury the world as it does Colorado State University Tide after tide will flow and recede steffend@lamar.colostate.edu Leaving life to go on as it was... - Peart / RUSH "The reason that our people suffer in this way.... is that our ancestors failed to rule wisely". -General Choi, Hong Hi ------------------------------ From: CBAUGHN@aol.com Date: Tue, 7 Mar 2000 06:37:58 EST Subject: the_dojang: Advice on Selecting a Martial Arts School Ken wrote: << New Topic. This may be a lame question for seasoned martial arts veterans. However, if you were asked by an independent reporter to discuss what should a parent or student look for in selecting a martial arts school--what advice would you provide. Please keep the answers short in a top ten list fashion (if not, ok). >> 1. A school where both the parent(s) and student(s) feel comfortable about being there. 2. A school in which the instructor(s) challenge each student to be the best he or she can be (i.e., no warm fuzzy "You did a great job!" even if the execution sucked.) without being harsh. 3. A school without a contract (but, ideally, with some "easy" way to pay; i.e., automatic debit, credit card, etc.) Sally Baughn cbaughn@aol.com ------------------------------ From: foxdragon@cuttingedge.net Date: Tue, 07 Mar 2000 06:20:08 -0800 Subject: the_dojang: brown belt test Stan From: WojoSG@aol.com Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2000 21:37:44 EST Subject: the_dojang: Re: Brown Belt Test Congratulations to you, Donna! I also tested this weekend. I am now wearing a brown belt (2nd Gup TKD). I really feel like I earned this one. It took two and a half hours. The lower belts got to step out and watch occasionally, but we were on for the entire test. And then, suprise! Sabum threw in some grappling which we hadn't touched on for a year or so. That was in addition to all the USCDKA requirements. Today I am wall to wall bruises. But I feel great. Stan Wojcoski black and blue brown belt Aroo!! Way to go!! How soon are you going to shoot for your red? Each belt takes longer in our school. So many hours you have to dedicate to. My instructor asked me this too. How quick will I get to BB. We have one new student who had joined up 20 yrs ago and then moved away. She is starting all over again new. She is nice and a old friend of our ex-master in LX. She wants to get to my rank as quick as she can. Wanted to know how to do it. I said it takes dedication but can be done. She can get to my rank in a yr and a half if she attends every class per week and practices at home. She is back on the singles scene so it is possible for her. Not me. P gets upset if I go more than twice a week. Well, I am if you include my teaching time on fridays but I have my kids with me that nite. I should go more. Now that I have quit my job I just might. I intend to take the summer off and continue again in the winter unless things get hairy here.
