I believe it was the last issue of USTU's Taekwondo Journal, that included an article (with Juan Moreno showing how-to) about doing these exercises. Also, Master Han Won Lee shows how to do TKD-specific plyos in one of his videos. My son has been doing plyos for about four months, and the increase in his speed, power, and distance has been phenomenal. I don't know how long ago this was. There was a time where the ITC practiced modified Chang Han Ryu forms....they were called Chon-Ji Ee, Dan Gun Ee, etc. However, about 18 months ago, we converted to "pure" ITF-style forms. Perhaps this person was showing you the forms we practiced before the conversion. Our Chon-Ji is now (not including turns): 1. left low block/left front stance 2. right punch/right front stance 3. right low block/right front stance 4. left punch/left front stance 5. left low block/left front stance 6. right punch/right front stance 7. right low block/right front stance 8. left punch/left front stance (kihap) 9. left innerforearm block/left back stance 10. right punch/right front stance 11. right innerforearm block/right back stance 12. left punch/left front stance 13. left innerforearm block/left back stance 14. right punch/right front stance 15. right innerforearm block/right back stance 16. left punch/left front stance 17. right punch/right front stance (kihap) 18. left punch/left front stance (moving backward) 19. right punch/right front stance Is this different from the Chang Han Ryu forms practiced by the ITF? Chris, I hope this answers your question. I'm having problems with my jump kicks and my jumping spinning kicks. It's not that I can't jump into the air, it's that I come down way too fast to get a kick off in any powerful way. I'm trying to improve my jumping ability by dead leaping (jumping from ready stance without any run) over increasingly higher obstacles and coming down on the other side in a fighting stance. That seems to be helping some since I usually have enough time to twist in the air and land correctly. Occasionally, when I'm being super coordinated, I can even get a side kick off. Are there any other exercises that you guys can suggest so that I can increase the height of my jumps and my "hang time"? Being a rather small woman in stature, my goal is twofold: 1) to be able leap up throw a front kick, roundhouse kick, or crescent kick to the head of much taller classmates while sparring. 2)to be able to do the same thing against an attacker and give myself time to get away. Any advice on exercises I can try will be much appreciated. Thanks, Ann-Marie Hey Ann-Marie.. I take hae dong gumdo now, and what we do in class to improve our jumping abilities, in both coordination and precision, is to regularly do standing jump-and-touch-your-chest-with-your-knees jumps (kinda like a standing spring ... probably a bad example...8)... personally, when i jumped over people to break boards for my 2nd dan testing, i kept trying to jump over increasingly longer distances, by placing little markers on the ground and seeing how far i could jump, then push myself a bit farther... i have to admit that i received quite a number of bruised knees from landing a little shakily... but in the end i think it was worth it... maybe what i say can help you in your situation... hope it does..
