Guard-Up?) female only seminars involved full contact, high-adrenal-rush situations against a padded aggressor. Sounds like excellent training to me...! >> Actually, Paul, our attendees are all female... but all Padded Attackers (called "FACTmen" in our course) are male instructors. The only exposure that our attendees have to the FACTmen are in the scenario based training. They never see the FACTmen with their helmets off or out of character until after the seminar is complete. We then allow them to meet the wonderful men and talk with them as human beings. This helps our attackers readjust. It is extremely taxing on these guys to be as physically and verbally assaulting as they are. One of them actually watched his own two daughters attacked by the second FACTman. His was a mixture of overwhelming concern and powerful pride. We have had three women martial artists (that I know of) who came from all women dojos to our seminars. They all commented on how much different it was to fight a man. The fact that our attackers are rather large and strong also made an impact. But the common point made was that they had never before fought anyone _full_contact_ who was so much bigger than they were. It makes for quite the adrenaline dump. We also offer coed FACT: Full Action Contact Training (tm) courses to our students. These are weekly classes that work on a variety of techniques and build up to the last class with the FACTman. For the big guys, we use a special hand modified suit with a bulletman (aka Peyton Quinn) helmet. The attacker is our Boxing coach who is used to taking some serious punishment. And his nastiest attack? He just lies on top of you and pummels you in the head. Very hard to displace a 230lb ex-wrestler. For any who are thinking about setting up a Padded Attacker program, I would highly recommend reading Peyton Quinn's "Real Fighting". If you are looking to set up a women's self defense program with a padded attacker, check out "Real Knockouts" by Martha McCaughey. Stay well. Stay aware. The child in question has only been doing Martial arts for 5 months nothing else. The ranks in the school in question go: White,Yellow, orange, 2nd orange, green, second green then blue. They are not "jr" ranks for underbelts either. I am just wondering what others think and "do" that is all. The mother was telling my wife that I must not have been holding the board right, and that is why the student couldn't break their board for me. Guess I have more to learn too.... :-) Seems its all my fault, not the students. I guess a little 9 yr. old newly promoted 5th gup and their mother know more than I, with my measly 25 years experience. Go figure. >> Don't worry, Mac ... I get this at my school, too. I have one Mom that is still complaining that her daughter didn't do well on her Green Belt test and why did I promote her ... and she is 4 belts above that now ... going for another belt promotion next month. She is talking about something that happened over 2 years ago !! And her daughter is one of my most enthusiastic students and is doing fantastically now. She was a little hesitant on her Green Belt test ... but no one is perfect. I saw that she was trying as hard as she could under the pressure that her parents had put her under. She has had 2 more years of learning how to deal with parent pressure ... she is much better at handling it now. I would, just once, like to see some of these parents get off their duffs and come in here and do what their kids do ... And I have had kids get to a certain belt rank ... and then slow down to a crawl ... and still expect to go up in rank. Rude awakening when everyone starts passing them up in rank. And, of course, it is all my fault ... not theirs or their kid's. I had something happen last month ... and I would like to bring it up for discussion. In our school, children bring in report cards before they test for another rank. The must have C's or better ... and a Satisfactory grade in Citizenship. I had 2 students that had good grades ... but ratings of a "D" or an "F" in Citizenship (they call them N's or U's on the cards). They clown off in class, they disrupt the classroom, are rude to the teachers, talk even when asked to be quiet ... in short ... disrespectful and undisciplined. I had one student that had a "D" in Math. His dad had every excuse in the book as to why that was so. But this was his second "D" in 2 report cards. No test. So they couldn't test with their normal group. Their parents were on me like piranhas. They accused me of hating their kids, not understanding their kids, trying to change a personality that they have had since they were 2 years old and they will always be like that, of not knowing how to relate to children ... the list goes on. I stood fast in my decision. They have since turned in Progress Reports from their teachers ... and these kids who have always had bad Citizenship grades ... have now got good Citizenship grades. The other kid has gotten the tutoring he so badly needed in Math and his grade has gone up. And I tested them this month. Their parents are extremely proud of their kids ... and the kids are proud of themselves. I realize that I will have to go thru this time and time again ... but I hate it. But I love the results. Do any of you that have your own schools require report cards be turned in also?
